I took my girl Spice to the vets 2 weeks ago as her bottom teeth were too long and she was having a bit of trouble eating. The vet trimmed them (too short in my opinion) and she couldn't eat at all. Back to syringe feeding; baby food, recovery plus and she could manage a bowl of cut grass. She won't eat hay or nuggets(I've tried soaking them and attempting to get her to eat them without success). She is loosing weight even with me feeding her 120g a day. She is suddenly very nervous and the stress brought on mites. Back to the vets for ivermectin for her and Ella her companion. The vet said her teeth had grown so she should be eating and she doesn't know what is wrong with her. She is sending me to another vets, I have an appointment tomorrow evening. I'm worried about her as she seems so depressed. :...

We're in Derby. The vet I'm seeing tomorrow is in Ripley, I'll let you know how we get on. Fingers crossed they can make her better, we suspect it could be a problem with her back teeth :...

Oh the poor baby :(
Keep syringe feeding this will keep her gut moving, you're doing fab x)

LOVING WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKS FROM US ALL FOR SPICE XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Liquorice has gone through spells of depression with her eye.. antibiotics and eye drops quickly resolved it, as she brightened up with a day or so of starting treatment.
It sounds like your piggy really enjoys her food, but discomfort in her mouth is preventing her from what piggies do best - eat, thus she's miserable about it. I found lots of cuddles and tempting with fav foods helps to keep depression at bay... hopefully, you'll get answers soon, as I hope to get to the bottom of an ongoing problem with madam..
Sending healing vibes x

The one thing I would suggest you get from the vet is pain relief, pain can make piggies feel life isn't worth living. When Spike's teeth start bothering him (he has ongoing problems) we give pain relief and he perks up no end. We give children's paracetamol suspension at 0.4 mls 8 hourly, this was advice given to me from a book written by a GP breeder. Although this is up to you, a lot of piggy owners are reluctant to give this, which is fair enough. All my boys have had it at some point. I am a great believer in pain relief as I suffer everyday with ongoing pain. When he has less pain he is more willing to eat a little bit too.
Good luck and healing vibes to your little Spice x>>

Thanks for mentioning pain relief, I have some metacam so I'll give her some now.

We have been to the other vets today and she's been kept in. They checked her mouth and it is her right hand side back teeth that have grown too long and was making her mouth sore :(
Tonight they are giving her Metacam and syringe feeding her. And tomorrow they are going to put her under anaesthetic and use power tools on her teeth to get the back to the right size and shape. They explained that as she was under weight (even though we syringe fed her loads) she may not make it, but we are hopeful as she is a young piggy so fingers crossed!
Ella is missing her like mad tonight, she's very sad so we are giving her extra cuddles and treats :)

Oh dam....... sorry to hear it's her toofies that's causing her all this :(

Poor little Ella she's probably wondering where her friend is.....good idea to give her lots of cuddles it will help you too x>>x>>x>>x>>

Spice had her teeth operated on yesterday and came round after her anaesthetic:) a big relief. I brought her home yesterday evening. As her mouth will still be sore she not eating so I'm still syringe feeding. Unfortunately she is still loosing weight. I feed her every 2 hours so I'm still worried.:...

Awww sending healing vibes! Hope she starts to put on some weight soon!xx

She wasn't impressed when I tried spoon feeding her porridge, am I supposed to put it in a syringe?:{

If they are eating a little for themselves, then I sprinkle the oats over the dry food. Otherwise I mix them up with hot water and either syringe in or put on a plate if they will eat softened food for themselves. I sometimes mix some oats in with Critical Care or with mushed up pellets too. It all helps give a bit of variety.

You might find Spice will love to munch on a little pile of oats.....my girls think it's a huge treat to get them :)
Thinking of Spice XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Spice went for a check up at the vets yesterday, she said her mouth was healing but still sore so she put her on more pain killers, as well as metacam. My main concern is she doesn't want to eat. Before her operation she nearly inhaled the syringe now she doesn't want it and I have to put the syringe into her mouth (not easy)to get her to take abit at a time, plus she is dropping weight. I've tried every food I can thick of plus your suggestions but she doesn't want anything.
