Spike was pts Friday 4/4/14 as he had an infection following a major operation to remove a huge lump under his chin.

I cannot say how upset I am. He as the sweetest natured guinea pig and deserved to live even longer.

I hope he enjoyed his two years that I had the pleasure of caring for him and I will never forget his lovely little face.

Sleep tight little one = there is no pain where you are now.

So so sorry to hear about Spike, I was really happy to hear he got through his op ok and you got the lump out - it must be doubly cruel to have to say goodbye after making it through something like that. My thoughts are with you xx
 
Val I am so sorry you have lost little Spike. You did all you could for your little boy, I am really sorry you had to let him go. Huge huge hugs to you

Thank you all so much for your supporting comments. I don't know of anyone else that would understand the feelings you go through when you lose a guinea pig. I have kept busy all day to keep my mind occupied. I did all I could to try and keep him going but he just refused to eat and syringe food or medication. The vet said he could give him massive injections of baytril metacam and metachlopromide but could not guarantee that Spike would not recover. The vet then said he could then consider a tube but that would entail a further anaesthetic. I decided on Friday the kindest thing was to let Spike go peacefully.
 
oh no i am ever so sorry you had to let him go after all you have been through. You did your best and I'm sure spike tried his hardest for you. sadly it isnt always to be. Rip Spike, sleep well beautiful xx
