split tooth?!

doing my health checks on the girls today and get to lunas teeth.. looks like a big spilt in one of her front teeth☹️ I'm going to try get a pic to post however its hard with only one pair of hands!

have not noticed a drop in weight and is still eating fine (touch wood), have a vet appointment booked tomorrow.

has anyone experienced this before and has any idea what to expect?
 
as you can see its a clear split up the tooth.. is this an emergency? she doesn’t seem in any pain. like iv said we are booked in tomorrow morning!

Ooh dear 😞 so long as Luna is eating and isn’t losing any weight, it isn’t an emergency but if she struggles with veg, you may need to chop her veg in to matchsticks to make it easier for her to eat. You won’t have a problem if the is still eating hay and the tooth should hopefully grow out but be prepared that she may lose the tooth and you’ll have to wait for it to grow x

okay great, like i said she will see vets tomorrow so hopefully they will confirm this! x
 
I have had at least one with a similar issue, it's hard to tell without looking at the gumline but it's not uncommon for them to grow a splinter of tooth down the sides of the normal teeth, these can sometimes be removed. If it's a genuine split then it will eventually grow out but to me it looks like it may be one of the weird splinter teeth. I dont think anyone really knows why it happens, my own thoughts are either trauma or infection in the tooth root, or a hormonal issue. It's a good sign shes still eating though! My own would only go off food when she was due to have it trimmed.

thank you for this information, very interesting, i’m hoping it’ll sort itself out like you say🤞🏻 i will of course keep my eye on her and if needed bring her back! was your piggies extra tooth wobbly? Lunas is..
 
Hi I’ve had a piggy with a weird tooth. I look him to the vet and they said he had injured it and the enamel was growing odd. It resolved by itself. It was not wobbly.

I also had a piggy with a tooth root abscess. His tooth eventually got wobbly and fell out, it then regrew odd.

Both piggies were fine with eating.
