hi I'm new here I want to get advice. I brought my piggy to the vet last week over a limp foot, the vet felt her hips and bones and said they both feel the same and that she just needs too rest for a few day and should be fine. he said she needs no pain killers. its been a week tomorrow although she seems better than she was last week shes not 100% she limps when running (only checked her running today) and limps occasionally when walking. last week she wouldnt put weight on it at all not even to sit which she is now. my question is, is it normal for a sprain to take longer than a week to heal? she's in a store bought cage in her friends shed, I didn't want to put her in the carrier for a week i'd feel so bad. I rang the vet but all they'll say is she needs to rest and probably give pain killers (maybe) I feel it may be a waste of time and money going to the vet if they just say she needs to rest it. ohh and last week she'd flinch if you touched her foot now she lets you touch it.

thank you in advance for your help!
Sarah

Hi!

A bad sprain can take several weeks to heal.

Please always ask for painkillers; metacam is not just a painkiller, but also an anti-inflammatory that can help with the healing process.

As long as it is getting better, then you are on the right way. She may aggravate it again when she becomes more mobile again and has another awkward landing. ;)

thank you :) I'll ring tomorrow and ask if they'll prescribe her some. she was mobile the whole week just limping she eats as long as she's with her friends. I plan on taking out the litter trays which I think caused it, I think she may of landed wrong or something and she was fine the evening before :)

so I posted yesterday about her but she seems stressed out and wants to be with her sisters she was biting the bars and I didn't want her to break her teeth, I put her in with them, their is nothing she can fall off I took any possibility out and they're in a one level cage. will she be okay? she only limps when running I know sprains can take a few weeks to heal.

Please reunite your piggies. Only separate them when absolutely necessary; the separation is very stressful.

she was always with them in a sense I had her cage in them and they could come up to her whenever they wanted and could hear one another. but today she started biting on the bars but I was worried about putting her back with them with her leg. she's with them now and the 3 were snuggled up together ☺️

I have merged your 2 threads as it’s much easier to keep everything to one thread as it’s all in the one place.
I’m sure she’s happier with her friends. Did the vets prescribe anything?
