Hello! I'm currently finding keeping spring greens fresh and not too bad within two or three days is hard. It used to be the same for kale until it went bad too quickly so I couldn't buy it often. I put it in the fridge and it improved, but not by much. Any ideas? I'm sure I've been doing something wrong somehow, so I'm trying not ignore the urge to grow my own and end up poisoning the piggies knowing the gardening skills I have :flag:

it seems to be the case with most veg unfortunately. you're best buying a few things to last a few days and then topping up again if this is possible. that way you can rotate veggies aswell to give variety. we have to do this as things don't last very long once opened or cut :)

Our greens last well in the fridge. The kale not so much but we don't feed that to the pigs anyway, it's for us. If you are worried about wasting it you could make kale chips (for humans not pigs).

I keep all my veggies in the fridge and shop in either Tesco or Asda as these seem to give the best quality and value for money . I found that Aldi's veg just goes off far too quickly x

I buy the non chopped versions of the spring greens from aldi and have never had a problem keeping them fresh. If you buy the pre-chopped versions of things then I find that they go off quicker. I also find that the sweetheart cabbage keeps really well, a long time past the sell by date.

I am finding that the same.. went shopping yesterday and got fresh stuff with the best date on it, its all in a food container in the fridge ready chopped etc but i imagine it will only last 3 days.. i am not a keen veggie eater myself so have wasted quite a bit already :( but at least the piggies are well fed !

Ah, ok. I'll take rosie and bramble's advice and go to either of those shops more often. It wouldn't have been too much of a problem if they finished building the Sainsbury's that was going on near me, but I think they dropped out.

I too find sweetheart cabbage lasts great if kept in the fridge and most of my foster piggies have loved it. I always rummage in the veg displays for the longest possible use-by date on all piggy veggies, even looking on the staff stocking-up trolleys( much to their amusement!).
