Is it me or is there a nationwide shortage?? :o

FIrst Tescos stopped stocking it.... Then a month ago ASDA stopped stocking it and now only have shredded... Havent tried Sainsburys but havent seen it...

I asked in Asda and they havent had any in because there is a bit of a shortage and they need to get rid of the chopped stuff...

Does anyone know why this is happening? I cant keep on feeding them cabbage and cauliflower and they really dont like it much!

I didn't realise there was a shortage but i do know it has got alot more expensive over the last couple of months. Its gone from 47p to 98p a packet and thats probably why.

You can buy them in Morrisons - 99p for a bag of 2 cabbages. They're not as tight and crunchy as the Tesco ones but the pigs love them.

I haven't seen them in one of the local Tescos for months now but the other one still sells them, packaged as Sweatheart Cabbage rather than Spring Greens.

i am having trouble finding them too - i have had to buy the shredded variety from tescos this week.

I think my local grocer stocks them but if i remember they didnt have any in last week.

My pigs love spring greens but Connie is on a low calcium diet now so they're not allowed it at the minute :( Sainsburys still stock them but I'm not sure how much they are

They are just going out of season at the moment and any I have seen have been horrid looking.

I rarely give greens now as I am concious of their calcium intake.

We don't buy them unless their reduced because the piggies aren't that keen on them. But I have noticed the only place we can get alot of stuff like kale is Tesco. When we go into Asda the fruit side is full but veg side is half empty. Cucumber is really expensive just now aswell.

I have never had a problem getting them at any time for the past 2 years though... My rabbits have been on Spring greens for 18months now and ive always been able to get them... Its just weird...:{

The weather we have been having has played a part in it I'm sure!

The stuff advertised as Spring Greens or Fresh Greens is usually a type of cabbage. No problems getting them here that I know of but I'll keep an eye out. Mine get them every few weeks for variety. They used to have them as a staple but mine didn't tolerate them so well, even just having a little each day.

Well i never! And heres me thinking leafy greens loved rainy weather...?/

I better start praying for better weather as i am running out of things to feed the troops that they actually like!

I'm still getting greens in sainsburys although they did run out for a couple of weeks over christmas. I have budgens locally and they always have greens but they charge £1.29 and I only pay 78p in sainsburys!

My local tesco's hardly has any veg in so i dont know what is going on ?/

I went into Asda today and was shocked at the price of cucmbers and iceberg lettuce (for me not the pigs)...!:o

The cucumber had gone up to 98p for a whole one and 50p for a half and the lettuce was 98p as well!
The price has gone up in the space of 2 weeks! Maybe the artic cold spell has damaged crops? I have no idea...

Yes, I also couldn't believe the price of a cucumber as I was going to buy one for my piggies! :(

I know! I used to be able to buy a whole cucumber for 60p... and iceberg only used to cost me 55p...

I'm glad it's not just me that's noticed! I thought I was imagining things.

Not been able to get any for about 6 weeks now, but I've never had a problem in 4 years of keeping piggies before now @) It's their favourite too!

i can't get them anywhere and my piggies will eat it all - i might try and grow my own, though not sure how they will turn out!

I have thought about growing my own as well!

I REALLY hope they come back in soon...

Have you tried the greengrocers at the back on Woolies Jane? They might have some in or be able to get hold of some for you.

Morrisons in Stone have got greens in a bag (99p for 2 large heads) - according to the guy in store they're the same as spring greens in as much as they're young, tender cabbage plants just labelled differently.

I've got to come into Stafford tomorrow or Friday so can drop some in for you if you want.

CO-OP are selling Spring Greens for under £1.00
I saw them in my local store last night

xx

I didnt even know there was a greengrocers behind Woolies! I should be able to get to Morrisons in Cannock tomorrow which is a bit nearer for me from work...

I dont want to bother you bringing them in but thanks so much for the offer! are you in Stone then? Small world....:))

The greengrocers is great, I buy most of my fruit and veg from there if I come into town. In Morrisons the greens are over by the sprouts and cabbages. If you can't get any let me know and I'll happily drop some in - I'm in Stafford tomorrow (solicitor) and again on Saturday (shopping) so it's not a problem dropping some in.

I'm in Barlaston but shop in Stafford cause the roads in Hanley scare me stupid!

Either that or they are going out of season.
I can't get any and my pigs love it! :(

I mananged to find some in my local Somerfields!

They are not massive like usual but they are spring greens... Only thing is now my pigs have gone off it... rolleyes:))
Ah well the rabbits love it still...
