Spurs?

I was trying to find a thread on spurs because I thought I'd seen one but hey ho..... I mentioned on another thread I'd noticed little scabs on the boys feet....I've managed to get pics today so here goes.

Gizmo was not well behaved enough for pictures! Here's one of Albi after the traumatic experience of having to lie on his back:

It looks very much like a typical spur. if you wish, you can cut off the hard bit, but not too close to the still life skin. Spurs are quite common in guinea pigs.

Yeah Merry has spurs like these on his front feet. I just tend to nip them off just like doing his nails.

It's just overgrowth of keratin-like material like nails.

He's never that happy about having them trimmed but it doesn't hurt him and they never seem to trouble him even when they grow a little.

Yep- those are spurs. My pig Frenzy always had them and my pig Sundae does as well (oddly enough Linney, who was the cagemate to both of them, never gets them.) You can clip them back just like you would a human hangnail, but not too close to the skin.

Hi, I couldn't see the point in stating a new thread so I thought I'd write on this one as my guinea pigs spurs look exactly like the picture just a tiny bit smaller and are on the side of the foot NOT fully under the pad like the picture! She has got a spur on both of her front 2 paws.

I am too scared to trim them but they don't look like they need to be yet. I am afrad of hurting her as I don't know where to cut them and how much.

Also is there any type of cream to help the spurs get better or even get rid of them.

In additon to my previous message,
Is there anything I can use or do to stop the spur getting infected as I don't want her to get bubble foot.
