With Christmas and birthday money my daughters jointly bought two security cameras, one for the run and one for the hutch. My younger daughter did have second thoughts, worrying about a violation of guinea-pig rights were we to spy on them, but the piggies clearly gave the go-ahead when we told them that if they didn't mind having cameras trained on them, then they should carry on eating their vegetables... Indeed, they seemed very enthusiastic about the idea. As they are shut up in their hutch in the shed at night we were all really curious as to what they get up to. We knew that guinea-pigs just napped throughout the night, but have been surprised that there seems to be no difference from their daytime behaviour (no news to all those with indoor piggies). We had expected longer naps, but they are very active, shuffling about, eating, rumblestrutting, jumping up and down the two mezzanines... At the moment we have a free trial which uploads and saves all the motion throughout the night, so we can scroll through, but thereafter we'll just use the cameras to monitor them 'live' from wherever we are. It does now mean that we can also keep an eye on the temperature when out as I've been able to position a thermometer where it can be seen from the camera.
Here is a screen shot from my phone from 2am last night when they were rumblestrutting! (I can have it so that it fills the whole screen.)
