Squabbling

Hi. We rescued 2 male guinea pigs last Friday. They are both one year old roughly and have been together all their life. One is very vocal but seems the most submissive and the other is quiet but is obviously the boss. My impression is that they tolerate each other but are not close. They never sleep together, grumble at each other over food and pretty much avoid each other. They have a large 120cm cage so they can be apart.
I used to have two girls, years ago and they did everything together.
Is this normal behaviour for boys please?

Yes, it is perfectly normal behaviour for either gender. By far not all piggies are "cuddle-uppers", some pairs prefer to have a private sphere.
