Sunday i found a lump on the side of Squeaks cheek it was not bothering him so booked him the vets for today as i was going with my bunny Binky and would * believe it burst last night at 10pm. He let Ken squeeze all the fowl smelling puss from it then we settled him for the night with a dose of metacam.

Vet shaved his cheek and it revealed a huge abscess ken had drained it well, now we are having to flush it twice a day and give him metacam and septrin. He's here with me now acting totally fine not bothered about his war wound and being so brave when we have to give him he's treatment. Squeak would appreciate some wound healing vibes please.

Lindsay x

Thanks for the well wishes. I have been checking on him all night and everytime i look in on him hes at his food bowl munching! bless him hes so good. Flushed out his wound at 5.30 this am before Ken went to work and he was the model patient again. x)

To be honest Debbie I'm annoyed with myself that i didnt ask for Zithromax before as ive always got it in the past. Hes back next Monday for a check up so if its not improving by then i will ask for it. x

Poor Squeak. Sounds like he's being a model patient - sending get well wishes from me and the gang xx

found a web site that sells Zithromax, how much of the tablet do you give piggies?

We was back at the vets last night and he is doing really well, vets pleased with how the swelling has gone down.

He has another swelling lower down thats very small but not draining so going to keep an eye on it for a few days then if its not gone down it will need lancing.

We are so proud of him through as he is being so good letting me look after his wound and give him meds.

Glad to here squeak is doing well, sending healing vibes to him. :rose

Zithromax is a prescription on medication because its a very potent antibiotic, you should not be able to just buy it offline without a written prescription (which will tell you the dosage). Please dont try to self medicate, if you think your piggie needs Zithromax then please take him/her to the vets for a proper diagnoses.

x.

Zithromax is a last ditch antibiotic for guinea pigs, as it causes some permanent damage; it should only be used in situations where there is a potential life/death scenario and it should only be prescribed by a vet. It is usually given as a suspension, anyway. Zithromax makes sense in a case where conventional anitbiotics don't work, especially nasty abscesses or a bad URI.

Wishing Squeak a good and complete recovery.
