How squeaky are your pigs? Are they all noisy or do some of you have quiet pigs? Is there a reason why some squeak more than others? Would love to hear from you all:o

Paula

My girls make so much noise when they see me putting fresh hay in their cage :) or when they know it's time for veggies!
They are cheeky little piggies :)

I found that with a larger group there is something like a "first wheeker for the Tribe" - it's often the latest piggy instigating and leading the wheeking choir.

My loudest wheekers are Telyn and Ffowlyn; the currently most enthusiastic is Hafina even though she hasn't got the biggest voice and some wheeks are rather hoarse.

We have four girls and the 'wheekiest' and loudist is Paprika she's also the smallest. It always makes me smile to watch her because her ears move fowards and backwards in time to the wheek.

Mine are all generally quite vocal but interestingly many of the 'holiday boarders' dont make a sound - unfamiliar environment I guess.

Sid is most definitely the noisiest of my own piggies and he has an extremely loud voice......................rolleyes

My 2 girls are relatively quite until I wind them up by rustling bags and saying "You want your veggies?", but Archie...My word does he like to use his vocal chords! Every time someone walks up or down the stairs, opens the door, moves....rolleyes :))

My 3 girls dont wheek they screech! it is SO loud! my boys wheek and bite their bars when they are excited:)

All four of my pigs shout loudly at veggie time each evening. I think Pixel is probably the loudest, although Pippa is the most insistant! rolleyes Willow seems to get most excited by haytime though and usually leads the noise in the morning.

As for general noise, Pippa ALWAYS chunners to herself when she's out of the hutch and Boris spends alot of time rumbling trying (usually unsuccessfully!) to impress the girls

Willow is also a proven piggie-singer. She doesn't do it often, but of the half a dozen or so times we've heard it, it has definatley been her at least three times

I have one loud piggy and one quite piggy. Gizmo is the loudest and does most of the wheeking, Joey is quiet but will squeak and wheek sometimes, but he just lets Gizmo do all the wheeking.

:)

It's lovely to hear from you all about your noisy pigs, my boys are outside so I don't get to hear them so much. They used to ask me for food but they have me so well trained now they know every time I pass they'll get a little morsal of whatever is to hand (usually dandelion or a handfull of grass)

I have one loud one and one quiet one too. Ruffle (aged about 5 months now) squeaks loads, he's really loud. At first I thought they must be fighting and kept rushing to see what the problem was, but he just likes squeaking! Jack practically never squeaks, just very occasionally when he hears the fridge open.

my little man Oscar is a huge sqeaker and for no apparent reason, he does it for England, my other little man Stan doesnt, sadly x

i have a loud one and a quiet one as well Georgina is very squeaky but Millie only squeaks when she is up for cuddle time even then it is not very loud and when she hears the bag that has their hay in it being moved at all

the fridge opening
the sound of chopping
the sound of ME chewing
any slight rustle
walking passed

anything sets the girls off, sometimes nothing at all!

and they both go in unison, its a lovely noise!

sometimes ill make a clicking noise with my tongue, at the rabbits in the morning, and i can just hear this little "brrr" from norah after each one, it obviously annoys her!

basil, who sleeps in my bedroom atm, is really odd, he mumbled and chuts to himself, but i swear, several times ive woken up in the night to the sound of him giggling! its scared me witless! :...

Everytime I walk by their room, they wheek.
Every time I talk
Change their bedding,
Give them hay and veggies,
Make any sort of noise possible, they wheek.

Though I miss having them in my room, Ivan would wake me up every morning, mumbling to himself. x

Looking at your replies I realise I should have titled this thread "Wheek piggy Wheek!"mallethead

My two boys are noisy when put in their run and it's playtime and Freddie squeaks alot when I have put the fresh food in their cage whereas Charlie stays quiet. But out of the two of them Freddie is the one who makes the most noise.

I'm so interested to read this! I've JUST posted about my girls and their screeching, worrying if it's normal, or some sort of protest that I'm not providing something they need... perhaps guinea pigs are just... noisy.
I guess I'm too used to rats maybe!

Mine certainly have their moments! A crinkling bag is always cause for massive amounts of wheeking... it just might contain food! They also know that treats come from the fridge, so hearing the fridge door open often causes a loud 'wheeeeeek!' from the pigs. What I find especially interesting is that they are very savvy as to what things mean a different times. We top up hay every morning, and they are far more excited to hear a bag crinkle in the morning than they are at other times of the day. Free play time and fruits and veggies are in the evening, and they are far more excited at the sound of the fridge opening at that time of day than any other time. They will also wheek loudly when they see me messing with the baby gates that I use to block off an area for free play time... they know that the gate going up means play time. When we first got pigs I was surprised at how attuned to the routine they really are... now that I've had them a couple of years I've surmised that my senior pig is smarter than me some days! LOL!

When we had Linney and Frenzy, I definitely though that Linney was the louder pig. But now that we have Linney and Sundae, it seems she lets Sundae voice her concerns more often! I can always tell the two apart, since Sundae has always had a raspier 'voice' than the others.
