Squeaking Boar - When Pooping.

My son has a boar called Storm, the other week for whatever reason he was chomping on everything in his cage, he even tried to eat sealant (I thought we'd guinea pig proofed it!), I don't know if he managed to get any before I covered it with fablon, he was eating the wood logs, trying to eat fleece and so on, even had to remove their houses because he was trying to chew on the fleece part of that.

He was taken to a vet who thought it was a bacterial problem, not long after he started to squeak when he poo's every so often, so he was taken to another vet who said he was gassy, she gave him some fibreplex (or however you spell it) and thought he could have hurt his bottom when going to the toilet because my son spotted a tiny bit of blood one time. He's also been given Baytril. He was taken on Thursday last week but he's still squeaking when he poo's, not when he pee's. How long does it usually take for fibreplex to work? and what else can we do to help him? The vet said he shouldn't have painkillers as it could upset his stomach more.

I'm hoping there's nothing else going on with him..

Hi, to your knolage did he he eat any sealant ? was it water , oil, or sylicon sealant ?
the Fibraplex shold have pased through his systin within a few hours .

is he pooing ?
if so l would colect a sample and ask you vet to do a broad spectrom analasiss (NB not a poo float )! a broad spectrom poo analisis

this should tell you one way or the other , if he has a bacteral infection in the tummy , it will also rule out parasitic tummy problems. and some of the other patagens know to upset the tummy

Also if he has a problem pooping perhaps a motilaty medicine (after the float) may help
 
Just a thought, ! dont throw away the Fibraplex syinge when its m t , it is handy to have an enpty fibraplex sringe in case you need to syrine feed at any time
in the future,

wash it and store it with the plunger inside the barrol
 
Have you any BioLapis or similar at the moment? I am wondering if his gut bacteria need rebalancing. The Fibreplex: does it contain probiotics? x

@gizzy Yeah he's pooping which is when he sometimes squeaks, if Aidan (my son) needs to take him back I'll get a sample of his poo and ask if they need to test to see if there's anything else going on. The sealant is aquarium sealant. It's not oil based (just been seeing if I can find what it is) not sure what it is to be honest! I know it's not got fungicides in it. Thanks for the tip about the fibreplex syringe.

@Critter he's getting probiotics because he's on baytril as well, Aidan's giving him avipro, the fibreplex has pre and pro biotics. He was also tried on recovery food at the first vets advice but Storm really kicked off and wouldn't entertain it, he doesn't like being syringe fed *sigh* the other guinea's aren't too bad, but he really does have a paddy.

Yeh. Maybe have a look and see if you can get anything out a cotton wool bud. I have to do Roddy a lot as he fills up often
 
I think the vet would have seen if anything was up there when she put the thermometer up his bottom lol. Going to check anyway.
 
@Kerrie74 I had a hamster who originally I housed in a fish tank that I turned on it's side, ventilation panel at the front. Anyhow, she nibbled huge amounts of sealant off, though I don't think she ate it so I know it's not quite the same as Storm's case. She showed no adverse effects anyway. I hope it's just as harmless in Storm's case xx
 
Sorry, you've probably already told me he's on the pro-biotics too. You know what my memory is like and I didn't go and check before replying! :)
 
Try carffuly opening his bum a bit , he could have a small absess (look for a white spot)
 
I once thought my Milan had eaten a piece of celotape and afterwards I started to notice that he was squeeky when pooping.

He was given different medicines to get his gut moving more - can't remember the name but anyway, he was still in pain when pooping. The vet then did a barium study with X-rays to make sure the celotape wasn't causing a blockage but instead they found he had a spinal injury.

Guniea pigs arch their back when pooping and therefore it hurt him to do it. It most probably isn't the same thing wrong with your guinea pig but just a thought. Hope you find out what's wrong.
 
Has he been checked for a UTI or IC? They can do squeaky poos with bladder issues too as everything is so close together. I know you probably didn't want to hear that :(

Yeah I know @helen105281 we've still got Jericho with suspected IC still :( I said to Aidan that I wondered if it was a bladder issue before he went to the vets the second time, the first time he wasn't squeaking, he was just munching on things, it was not long after that he started squeaking. Do they just check their pee for UTI's and IC or do they have some other way of doing it and if he does need to take a pee sample how would we go about getting one? She did take his temperature, that was fine. Blood wise Aidan saw one spot nothing more, but I'll ask him to put a light coloured pad in later so we can check properly. He's not squeaking when peeing though, just pooping.

The problem we're having is that him and Snow keep squabbling, Snow's been rumble strutting Storm which he's never done before then Storm chases him and Snow chatters his teeth, I'm going to assume it's because Storm isn't well so Snow is trying his luck.
 
Yes just a pee test for the UTI, then the vet will use a test stick. It is not a completely reliable indicator but can be used as a guide. I pop my pigs in a clean bucket after giving them plenty of fluids and then wait. I have my own test sticks but you could keep yours in a sterile syringe (straight out of the packet) to take to the vet. For IC diagnosis is usually with an ultrasound.
 
Ooo ok, thanks @helen105281 :D He drinks more than the others. I've put the light coloured pads in now so should be able to see if there's any blood. Can you buy the sticks then? The other thing I was wondering is if he could have a bit of a blockage? but he's still pooing.

I think the vets have more effective ways of testing though aswell but these are good as a rough guide.
