Junior Guinea Pig
Hey!
I would like to ask for some advice regarding one of our piggies. She caught a UTI last april, and after several courses of antibiotics, we had to force-feed her for almost 5 months, since her gut-flora got so damaged. Now, she is generally feeling very well, eats by herself, and keeps her weight within a reasonable range (850-860g). However, we have been experiencing some strange symptoms lately. Every time she goes into heat (every 16-18 days) she loses about 30-40grams, which she gains back immediately after the heat is over, and during this period she also often squeaks when she poos, as if she was in pain. We had an X-ray made, as she had had some sludge in her bladder when she was ill, and we were suspecting urinary stones. However, the X-ray came back negative. The symptoms were gone for about two weeks (another reproductive cycle), and when they came back, we called our doctor for an appointment. By the time of the appointment, the symptoms were once again gone, but we had an ultrasound done on her to make sure, which came back negative, even though her bladder was empty, so it was a bit hard to see it properly on the ultrasound. Now, we are experiencing the same symptoms, and we do not know what else we could do. She does not appear ill, she eats a proper amount of hay (she hasn't been a very good eater since her illness, but she still eats enough to keep her weight) and her stool appears normal in shape, color and size, although it is a tad more crumbly than it should be. What else may cause squeaking while pooping? Any advice apprexciated!
