Hey everyone 😊

Just looking for some advice regarding guniea pig behaviour. I had Reggie for about 4 months now which means his 6 months old now. Has anyone ever experienced extreme squeaking at night. Reggie is in our room and i cant be placed anywhere else but lately we are struggling to sleep at night as everytime we move or dont move he squeaks every hour at night very high pitched 🤣and cant calm him down and I'm not sure if its for attention or food .I have never experienced this before with my other 2. Has anyone else gone through this any advice that can help.

Does Reggie have a friend? Mine squeaked for as attention till I got him a friend

We rescued him and was told he was on his own previously and was not really with other guniea pigs but this only happens at night any time we move or he hears a sound even when he has something to eat🤣

He is very young. Sometimes they are separated from the herd before they are mature and are left with separation anxiety. He needs the company of other piggies. He is a perfect age to be neutered and, after six weeks have passed in their entirety he can be put with a little wifelet, which is the nicest life a piggy can live ❤️

Squeaking is situational so it would be almost impossible for us to know exactly why he is doing it.
My guess would be, based on the fact he doesn’t have a friend, that during the night he doesn’t have human interaction either so he is doing it to get attention. This is where human habits and single piggy needs are going to clash.

I absolutely agree that he needs a friend. They, and particularly babies of the age he was when you got him, should never be kept alone.

It would be best if you got him a friend.
Given he is a teenage boar, neutering and getting him a sow friend would be the easiest option but it comes with a long wait time as he cant be in with a sow until six weeks after he is neutered.

Having a boar friend would speed the process up but bonding a teenage boar with raging hormones can make it harder. This is where a rescue can help in trying him with as many boars as necessary until he gets on with one.
