Squealing In Pain What's Wrong?

currently awaiting vets appointment at 3:45 but in the meantime does anyone know what could be wrong with my boy?
I heard him making a funny noise in the cage so picked him up and he squeaked in pain... after investigation the pain seems to be around his chest area. Around his eyes were wet and every now and then some white fluid runs out. At the moment he's eating and drinking both when offered and on his own accord. I have just noticed he is just walking up the ramp rather than running as he usually would. So worried :-(
Does this sound more like illness or an injury?

I am very sorry; it is impossible to say without a hands-on vet diagnosis.

The white fluid from his eyes sounds like normal cleaning fluid. Are you sure that the squeaking is in pain and not protest?

Thank you... he definitely sounded in pain as it's not like him to squeal like that. And the fluid was more than usual too plus he just seems "off" if you know what I mean. Vet thinks it's more an infection but has prescribed a dosage of sulfatrim and metacam to cover all angles. Do hope he'll improve and that I've caught whatever it is on time

Please switch from the usual weekly weigh-in to a daily one at the same point in the feeding cycle and if he loses over 50g, start stepping in with topping up with syringe feed. Hay makes around 80% of the daily food intake, but you can't control it except by weighing. It is most often the first food group that is dropped.

I hope he has a speedy recovery. It's so difficult when we don't know the exact root cause of the problem. Emotionally I mean, because we have to trust that we are doing the right thing treatment-wise. I suggest keeping a very close watch on his poops, note any changes in size, shape or texture. Take note is his belly starts to look swollen or feels hard and take his straight back down the vets if this happens. It's a good sign that he's eating and drinking well

Good news - day 3 of the medication and he's perked back up to his usual self! He's eyes are clear too now no more discharge! I'm so relieved that he's out of the woods! Currently watching him run around with his cage mate and wheeking for his veg :-)

Thank you - he's so much better now after being on some medication so very glad I acted quickly and didn't just wait and see
