Hello, I'm in need of some advice please. A couple of weeks ago Squeekypete had episodes of heaving painfully while doing some big squishy poos as well as normal ones. He was treated for cystitis & it seemed to clear up. He was neutered Wednesday & seemed to take it in his stride, but by Friday he was getting picky about food especially veg.& is doing squishy poos again. Today he's only nibbled a bit & is heaving again while doing big squashy poops. He's looking a bit puffed up too. He's still eating hay,& I'm going to give him some critical care. He has a vet appt Monday. In the meantime I'm not sure whether to avoid giving him veg ( I have some apple & carrot babyfood) because of his soft poos, he'll
eat a bit of spinach & lettice but he shouldnt have much of those, or should I get anything I can into him to keep him eating?

I forgot to mention he has lost a few ounces since his op which is a bit worrying!

I would take the lettuce and spinach from his diet altogether as they could upset his tummy further if he already has soft poos. I would just stick to hay and pellets for now. Sending hugs xx

look up "bloat" on guinea pig lynx, not sure if it is this, but have a look and see if the symptoms match up. its the only thing i think it could be. if you think it could be,straight to the vets with pete I'm afraid xxxxx

When my guineas have had squashy poops in the past, I immediately cut out any veg, although I do offer a bit of carrot. Lettuce and spinach are very 'rich' for guineas, so these need to go until he feels better. I would leave the apple babyfood, but try the carrot maybe. and critical care, as this has everything needed.

maybe he has some kind of infection from his op, or he could just be feeling a bit under the weather.

Thanks for the replies. in the end I cut out all veg & gave him a little c/care, & some extra water, (& extra cuddles!)this morning he was eating his dried food ok, & by this afternoon he seemed much improved, running about the kitchen & doing a few normal poops. Perhaps its just an upset tummy, a piece of bad veg or something, he's at the vet for his post op tomorrow anyway.

glad to hear he is better my Peter is nicknamed squeekypete and he was neutered on friday sorry just random but sounds familiar

The vet gave me probiotic powder & septrin incase that doesnt work. He had this problem a couple of weeks ago but it cleared up, I think maybe the antibiotics given
when he was neutered sparked it off again. Fingers crossed it'll clear up now, I like
Squeeky Pete nice & fat & cuddly, I dont want him to lose another ounce!
