I have two happy healthy guinea pigs, but I have just noticed that one of my guinea pigs has started to squint ,but only in one eye.I have tried to get a better look at it but she can only open her eye for short periods of time ,but I can see a small amount of red liquid coming out of the inner corner of her eye.I am extremely worried ,does anyone have any advise on what I should do.
It would help me a lot.

I am sure everyone experienced and knowledgeable will be here in a minute, but please take her to a vet asap.

Hi!

Please have her vet checked promptly, ideally as soon as possible or latest within 24 hours. It sounds like a potential not yet ulcerated hay poke or something scratchy stuck under an eyelid.

Please be aware that injuries are not necessarily visible to the naked eye. A vet uses a special dye under ultraviolet light to assess the damage. Eye injuries deteriorate very quickly; the sooner they are treated, the more quickly and easily they heal again in a matter of days.

Eye treatment and medication is the same as for other pets, so any decent general will do.

All the best!
