I usually have a ceramic bowl but I believe one of the pigs knocked it off the ladder and it’s cracked. Nonetheless, they have a replacement bowl to use while I get them one that can be kept and not broken. I went to Pets At Home and saw a steel one. Is it safe?

Yes, although you might find it's lighter in weight and thus easier to tip over than a ceramic bowl would be.

:agr:

and also, you don’t need to use a food bowl, scatter feeding food and hiding it amongst hay provided enrichment and encourages natural foraging behaviour

I have used a mix of ceramic and stainless steel bowls over the years and they all work fine.
