Hi,

Over the past two days, (since using towels/fleece) as an alternative bedding, I have noticed a creamy/cottage cheese like stains on the towels. Only about 3 or 4 small patches (about size of 20p piece), and it is dry, but a little like that of cottage cheese, but in a cream colour.

I'm trying to eliminate things and can only think that it may be a coincidence since our new arrival, (Dotty, a 16 week old piggie), who arrived on Saturday. I can't recall seeing it before Dotty arrived.

My other piggie is Maisy and is about 4 years old. I have taken a photo, but will only be able to upload it tomorrow. But the marks are very very similar to that, as mentioned above.

I really hope this is nothing to worry about, as I feel I can't take an awful lot at the mo. I can't tell who is weeing and pooping really, although I know Maisy is pooping, (she's always pooping, lol). Dotty, seems to have settled in quite nicely since Saturday and is wheeking when the veg turns up or is being prepared.

Any help or suggestions would be really very grateful. Thanks everyone. :)

These stains are excess calcium that has been excreted by the body and are nothing to worry about as long as they are powdery.

Only if they are gritty in nature do you need to be worried as the grit can indicate bladder sludge or stones; but that usually happens in connection with bladder infections.

They're just what Wiebke said and nothing to worry about. Completely freaked me out when I first saw them when I changed to fleece. :)

Pictures!

Thanks for your replies. I thought I'd pop a pic or two on, so you could see what I've described. Is there anything I can do to help with this secretion? I think it may be Dotty, my new 4 month old. I was downstairs in the early hours today and just said hello to them both and Dotty happened to wee at that time. I made a point of looking at the area where she weed this morning and it was very slightly soiled with this description of cottage cheese.

I should have taken photos of the first lot I'd seen, it was more of a texture then, but this is what one of them has been depositing. How can I help to stop it?

Any advice please?

I see similar deposits every so often- it's just part of the content wee isn't it? By the way i will never think of cottage cheese in the same way again after your description :))

That's only powdery calcium and will wash out without problems.

Should I wash the bedding in a particular powder? I've bought Fairy non bio for the mo and have used it a couple of times in past week. Help, I'm going mad over all of this and the feeding, getting the right quantities. I don't want to upset little Dotty or Maisy. :(

I use Fairy non bio and get on with it fine. :)

p.s. don't worry, you're doing fine. Remember to enjoy your pigs in between the worrying. x
