I know i'm probably just being a worried mum, but my piggies are being stalked by an over inquisitive cat!

They are garden guineas, so it was bound to happen. I know they're safe, but the other day I caught it trying to put its paw through the wire at the front of the hutch and it really scared me! Is there anything i can do to ward off this cat? I know it can't harm the piggies cos they're run is always pegged down and the hutch is very secure with bolts, but will it stress them out? They don't seem to bothered, in fact, i think i'm more worried about it than they are... 98) 98)

if you dont have any other animals around, put some pepper down cats dont like it, and will probably stay clear of your guineas if you put it right around the cage but not close enough so the guineas can get it.

Oh great, I'll try both of those! Natural methods of warding them off...thanks

or you could buy a dog? lol

my dog hates cats so i have no worries when my piggies are out lol she guards them

Try and find some dog poop out on the street and put it in your back garden (in the border or something)! ;D ;D ;D

The cat will think a dog lives at your house then! O0 8)

You could change the wire on the ages to smaller holes. Our cats have given up now they aren't the slightest bit bothered by them.

:'( Very sorry if this upsets any cat lovers, but i throw soapy water on the cat.Just put a little squirt of 'washing up liquid' in the water. The cleans its fur, doesn't like the taste and doesn't come back.Worked for me! O0

Guys, I don't agree with throwing water at a cat but if you do please try not to get it in their eyes or ears.

Patch always lays next to the piggies when they're in their run and he never bothers them, but I can see how not your own cat would be annoying.

i have a cat and I'm not upset - my cat wont let any other cat come in the gradan or near the piggies aprot from his girlfriend
but we spray water on catsjust clean water out of the traps makes them run if we need to

Thanks for all the great advise! Might borrow my in-laws dogs and get them to put their smell about, as it were! We have got some extra wire now to put on the front to make the gaps that bit smaller, so hopefull the cat will get bored now anyway!

I have the same problem but sometimes the cat is playing with them trogh the wire. But i do loud claps to scare it away ( not being mean to the cat though )

I save a few used teabags let them dry and put a few drops of teatree oil on them , it keeps the cats out of my plants so i dont see why it won't work for piggies too! :)

Sammy - that's genius! The damn thing was sat on top of the hutch just now...i'd only put them away 10 mins ago!

Actually, the pigs seem totally unbothered ::)

i woulnt imagine the scent from a dog would work, the cats love winding my dog up lol

There was a cat in our garden the other days and the piggies were in the playpen and you could see them from the garden. The cat walked past our back door, doubled back then stopped and stared at my piggies, I swear it was eyeing them up for lunch!
