Well my 7 month old puppy was neutered (and had his hernia sewn up) on friday and he's really not coped very well with the pain since (he has been getting pain meds also). He won't even walk unless he really has to and I'm just starting to have second thoughts about putting my pigs through it if my dog can't even handle the pain? How do piggies behave post op? And how long before they're back to normal?

Ideally, boars should behave as if nothing has happened and there should be no problems whatsoever, but depending on the vet/operation, it can be a struggle for several days or at the worst, they can die. Hence our urge to look for a good piggy vet; the shorter the time a piggy under anaesthetics, the better. Experience and practice in those aspects go a long way.
Tips For Post-operative Care

they tend to bounce back really quickly. with a good vet the risks are very very low and it is seen as a very straight forward routine op. it generally takes no time at all and they are up and about very quickly afterwards :)

of course you can never be absolutely certain how an individual will react. i know even when the risks are low, you don't want your pet to be that one who doesn't do well or doesn't make it so i understand your worry. but as far as ops go, it's probably as much of a low risk one as you'll get :)

I have had 2 of my sows spayed by a very piggy savy vet - under - done and up and eating all within 20 mins - as the others say - the shorter they are under the better - one of the sows who was spayed had previously been put under for a lump removal by an ordinary vet and was feeling very sorry for herself after that op and it took a week for her to get back to normal - so with a piggy savy vet you should be fine.

I've had two of my boars neutered. The first time around I was so scared and sobbed saying goodbye to him and worried about him all day. He was a bit dopey the next day but after that, he was back to normal. The second time, he was so good and by the time we got him home from the vet, he was acting like nothing had ever happened. It depends on each piggy, but generally, recovery is pretty quick and straight forward.
