HI!

Ive had mine for 3 days now.. I'm able to hand feed him with no problem. Have taken him out a couple times actually. He likes to run on floor.. But still when he comes out to drink or eat his normal food or walk around and I might walk by or something he runs and hides again? Will this break, or what else do i Need to do, to prevent him from running everytime I walk by?

THanks

keep a routine going
talk to him gently whenever approaching him
rustle a bag of food
he'll soon start coming round
some pigs are more nervous than others
one of my rescues took a few weeks while the other took a few days!
all the best!

well thats good to know. I guess Patience will pay off!
Thanks

We have a collection of informative threads, especially for newcomers to guinea pigs, in our reference section.

Here are tips for settling shy new guinea pigs:

You may think about getting your boy a companion; that will cheer him up no time and will provide you with lots of fun watching their antics! The fascinating thing about guinea pigs is their "talk" and their interaction - they are group animals and should not be kept alone.
You may find this thread very insightful in how guinea pigs "work":

Thanks for the info.. I have a male Pig though and was told you cant put 2 males together and I do not want a female because I do not want babies at this time.. So how can i get a companion for him?

This forum is FULL of people with 2 males together so it does work :)! It's a very common misunderstanding, though... and one that most petshops will tell you. How old is your pig? If you tell us your county someone will soon come and direct you to your nearest guinea pig rescue. It's what I would recommend, because the people at rescues have oodles of experience with bonding boar pairs. You little boy will be able to chose his own daddy/big brother. Boar pairs can be very loving and protective of eachother :)

I live in st. Peters Missouri...I got mine from PEtco.. I saw him and fell in love instantly.
