hi all i took on a female girl a week ago and called her stella as she didnt have a name she is 18months old ive now brought her into the house and put her in an indoor cage as the hutch i was given with her was tiny :( but she wont come out of her bed/tunnel at all she seems so nervous ive tried sitting by the cage and feeding her treats but she is still the same i was told she was friendly well handled etc but it seems like she either hasent had any handling at all or has been treated badly i want to give her lots of attention but i dont want to push her ...... whats the best thing to do i know I'm probably expecting to much after 1 week lol x

I have found that a guinea by themselves can be like this. Have you thought about getting her a companion? They are social creatures & need another guinea to live with really.

I would start weighing her regularly, daily for now & then moving to weekly, to see if she is keeping her weight on. A stressed piggie can sometimes not eat enough or lose weight.

How sad she didn't have a name at 18 months old :( so glad she has found you & her new name. Hope Stella will be ok :)

hi thanks for the reply she seems to be eating ok he fresh veg etc is always gone and i can tell she is eating her dry food as well she just seems to dart straight to her home as soon as someone even moves an inch bless her ..... ive been looking everywhere for a friend for her but peope only seem to be rehoming males :( what age should i get a younger one or one around the same age as her
thanks x

It sounds as though she's not really used to being around people much. I would just give her space and time to get used to her new surroundings and definitely think about getting her a friend. As long as she's eating ok I wouldn't be too worried. It sounds like she just needs patience and gentleness. :)

First of all congratulates on getting Stella.

Piggies are often very nervous, we had to set a video camera up To see if our first piggies came out when we first got them... :))
Food is a great bribe and in time she will associate you with good things. Talk to her often so she gets used to the sound of your voice. But it will take time, she will get use to you.

Agree on above with a friend this will get her more confident and be good for her as piggies are herd animals. Where abouts do you live? If you are in the UK, someone may be able to suggest a rescue close by that can help you choose The perfect friend for Stella.
