Hi everyone- needing some support for my 2 year old piggy, Kenzo (currently 910 grams). Since February this year, he has been squeaking and straining when toileting. After many tests (urine tests, cultures, ultra sounds and CT scan etc), the vets have diagnosed him with Sterile Cystitis. Since then, he has been on 0.3ml Meloxicam (dog), 0.05ml Tramadol and 0.1ml Gabapentin twice daily, additionally, he gets Oxbow's joint and urinary support (one tablet of each daily, mainly for the Glucosamine benefits). However, the squeaking continued. There were days where he would also have blood in his urine and a once-off occasion with gut stasis. Fast forward to now, he has just finished his initial course of Cartrophen injections (4 injections - 0.03ml each). There was major improvement after the second dose, but oddly, shortly after the third dose, his squeaking came back again. He has also had a couple of days of intense squeaking and straining since the final dose. The vet has been made aware and has agreed to give him a fifth dose, then wait a month for another one and then we will reassess from there. I've seen quite a few posts here about other owners experiencing IC with their piggies and wanting to know if they have had this experience with Cartrophen too? How it starts to work, but stops etc. I understand there is no cure for IC, and simply, some days just may be worse than others for Kenzo. Other than this, Kenzo is very bright, happy and is eating well despite all of this. Any advice / experiences with Cartrophen + any additional support about long-term IC management would be appreciated! :)
