Today's the day! Steve of Garden Woodcraft has driven all the way from Shropshire to my house in Central Scotland to personally build the hutch he has made for me!

And he doesnt even want a cup of tea!

Says he has a few more deliveries in Glasgow (that's 50 miles from me) and then all the way back down South.

Of course, when i ordered this hutch, my plan was for Belle and Ebony to live in it . . . .

Maybe Belle can have a few hours respite out there from the wee chatterbox with the faulty respiratory system!

Will post pic when it's all finished

Here it is! I'm very pleased with it; good and solid. Good size too. Hopefully Ebony will make it safely through til next summer and she could try it out then.

It definitely will get used at some point as i cant imagine ever not having piggies.

It is designed for rabbits so i might need to adapt the ramp for safety. However, the hatch can be closed just to use one level.

The covers make it fox proof and weather proof. It looks attractive there in the garden meantime :tu:

Perhaps against my better judgement - belle and ebony tried out the hutch today!

Lovely warm day here. Not too hot, perfectly dry. Just right. And ebony was in very fine fettle this morning.

I figured she did start off her life in a hutch outside (hutch within shed) and the vet has confirmed her chest is clear.

So she should be ok for a couple of hours in the hutch. The hutch is a rabbit hutch really and i didnt tell steve it was to be used for pigs otherwise he might have made an adaptation to the ramp. It is too steep for pigs.

They just went in the top today but no real excitement from them - they just settled in the bedroom part.

So i gave them half hour in a run on the grass.

Then took ebony in for nebulisation. Popped them back in the indoor cage.

Panicked as belle flaked out at full stretch and crashed into a deep sleep.

And ebony just sat under the ramp.

However, both have come back to normal so hopefully their very exciting day wasnt too much for them!

For too steep ramps I put a folded towel or fabric under the bottom of it, to make it less steep.
Great minds think alike! I wedged a piggy bed under it but i think it needs some full safety checks before it's good to go.

There is a possibility (I'm thinking (guessing)) that ebony might be better outside - if it is something in our house she's allergic to.

I'm only trying odd hours fine days though just to see how she goes. And we dont get many fine days in scotland . . .!
