Hi I'm just wondering if anyone happens to know how expensive it is to get a swab tested for infection.

My piggy has had a poorly eye almost since I got him and on the first visit to the vet he had an eye ointment. After almost a week it had improved but not completely gone away and a repeat visit to the vet led to a different antibiotic drop. She has diagnosed it as bacterial conjunctivitis and although there is a massive improvement (I was having to bathe his eyes open 3 times a day) I can still see that there is a little stickiness there and if I were to stop bathing them in the mornings I get the feeling that the problem would soon recur.

My biggest worry is that this is a sign of something more serious, Louie is not gaining weight as fast as his brother although I see him eating loads. Having lost a piggy to heart failure last month, I'm not ready to go through that again.

I have stopped putting hay in their house although they have massive amounts of it in various places around the cage, in case Louie is poking himself in the eye when he runs in there.

Any thoughts?

Aw bless him, welcome to the forum, is his nose clear? Is he weeing, pooing etc normally? What bedding do you have him on?

His nose is clear, he does sort of sneeze sometimes when I put the drops in his eyes but I think the eyes and nose are related in rodents, I used to have a rabbit who repeatedly had blocked tear ducts and when the vet cleared them out, he used to blow the gunk out of his nose :{

He is weeing, pooing, eating and drinking well but so was my Muffin until his last day.

He had sawdust for the first couple of days we had him, then I switched to carefresh and now I'm using megazorb. His eyes don't seem to have become any better or worse with the change of bedding.
