Hi,
I just picked up one of my pigs for morning hugs and she has got her bedding stuck to her belly. I've pulled most of it out but it's pretty attached. Yesterday I thought her tummy looked a bit strange, like some of her fur was missing. It's right in the middle of her tummy, but more towards her back than front. I don't know if she's maybe sat in something sticky and i'm being paranoid or if it's more than that. I've never had this problem in the 2 years I've had her. Thanks in advance x

Can you take a pic of the area? As close up and in focus as you can. Is her cagemate also a female?

There are a couple of explanations with no health implications.
1. That she/her cagemage has had a season and the mucus plug that females lose became stuck to her hair, usually it is lost in the bedding and too small to be a nuisance.

2. Her cagemate is a neutered or un-neutered male and his boar glue has become stuck there. Obviously if he is not neutered this is a major concern.

If you can manage to post a pic it will help to see if there is another cause.

sorry if this is a stupid question but how do I attach a picture? x

Thanks for that, unfortunately it's not very compatible with my phone and won't let me upload. I'm sure it's nothing serious, i'll just try and give the area a gentle wash x

I would say try and gentle wash the area, could be anything so be very gentle. Could be anything like Suzy suggests, could also be a small abscess thats leaking and causing bedding to get stuck. Or just wet bedding or even dried poo? Let us know how you get on?

x.

Thanks twiams! I've given her a little wash and there seems to be a small lump under her skin. It doesn't appear to be causing her any pain. Should I just keep an eye on it? x

Lumps under the skin are worrying (especially because it was causing stickiness) It could be an abcess which would be fairly easy to treat if caught early and seen promptly, however if its left it could get worse.

Hopefully the tutorial will have shown you how to upload photos (if so, taking one and showing us what you mean if possible would be great)

If not, I would sugest definatly ringing up and having a chat to the out of hours vet about it.

Sorry i can't be of much help, but as said before lumps can be very worrying and with anything like that it's often good to get it checked out by a vet as it could be something quite serious and when piggies get ill they can go down hill quite quickly so it's best to have it checked out before it's to late.
Even if it is nothing serious it will help put your mind at rest better to be safe than sorry !
