Petal was back at the vets for her Cartrophen jab today & well, the vet actually called her a miracle pig! She has no idea why she reacted badly to the pain killing injection last week, but the Flagyl seems to have worked along with the low dose of Zantac & Cisapride & possibly the addition of some dried Shepherd's purse as well :) She has normal poos :) There was something going on under the surface but who knows what, but I am so relieved. This piggy has cost me more than my car did. If it is nothing but a warning to others to get your pigs insured please! Sadly Petal came to me with a bladder problem almost straight away, I only had her less than a year when it started. There's a lot less of her now than when we started (No womb, ovaries & 250g weight loss) but she has amazed me with her determination to survive. I have virtually no money left but as she lies here snuggled up with her daughter Daisy (My avatar pic) I know I have done absolutely all I can to help her, even if no-one gets any Christmas presents this year! I would never have let her suffer but whilst she showed such a will to survive I was sure I was doing the right thing. I would like to thank the wonderful forum members who have pm'd me their support & @Pebble & @helen105281 for their vast knowledge & help to get us through this. I am hoping I won't need to post about Petal for a while now, she is still being monitored closely & is not back on veg yet so we are still walking a thin line but I haven't felt this hopeful for many months. She has been poorly for over 2 years & it has been very tiring emotionally. I've learnt a lot from everyone on here & feel blessed I have such a wonderful vet & hopefully can relax a little bit now & enjoy my fur babies for a good few years to come :luv:
 
I am glad that Petal is so much better and that you have got her through the crisis.
 
This is one of the most uplifting and wonderful things to read.
You have been an absolute star looking after her so well. The determination you've both showed is incredible and I hope you can both enjoy a much needed respite x

Thank you so much, I realise how lucky I am, a lot of piggies have been lost post-op on here recently due to complications or just plain bad luck as I have only done what everyone has done, just been observant & dug deep into my pockets. I count myself very fortunate to have a good vet & a good stand in vet as well. Things can go wrong with these little creatures so so quickly, I am counting my blessings today & can start to be a little more optimistic. I know others haven't been so lucky & my thoughts still go out to them x

Just caught up, so glad she is on the mend yey for the normal poops!

Is your vet exotic? Sounds like a great vet, my local vets are beyond useless with small animals I'm considering writing to the lot of them to inform them they are all idiots.

You must be skint I can totally sympathise, I spent over £1000 on Rodney, I have managed to claim most back via insurance although had to pay double excess as my first vet diagnosed the arthritis with no tests conducted so I had the pleasure of paying extra excess for their error despite there being X-rays showing no arthritis..... Annoying!

Grrrr.

Bet you are relieved and knackered all at the same time! Well done xx

You just don't care at the time do you, I still owe money I need to make a call & pay my last bit of debt off, am struggling now as I'm also moving & spending every penny I have on my new flat which I had to completely rip out - very stressy! But what can you do, they are our hairy children eh :wub:
