So ive had him for a month now, Talk all the time feed, and pet and take out.. But still if hes out of his hiding or up on his platform eating, if i walk by too close he runs and hides, If i walk further away around him he seems to be ok, just when get too close he runs and hides again, I dont get it? I mean i can pet him and take him out I would have thought he be used ot me now and stay out when i walk by.. Why does he do this? what do i need to do to make him not run away?

Thanks

It's instinctive for a guinea pig to run away, especially if there is sudden movement high up. It's a case of run first and check if it's safe later. It might be to do with the field of vision they have but I'm not sure.

:)

what can i do to make him realize everything is safe first? I guess not a good idea to take his "hide" away then he will have no where to go?

i guess just instinct, Might never change.

Mine all do it and i've had two of them almost three years rolleyes

Its normal. you see to them anything that has eyes in the front of the head is a preditor (because all meat eaters tend to have eyes at the front of the face where as vegeterian animals have an eye on each side of the face so they can see more, to look out for 'us' preditors) Its instinct. It can take a while for them to come round, some can take a good few years and some will do it all theyre lives. Just keep handling him and give him a little treat when you approach his cage just to show that you arnt a threat.
