when i put Elvis down for floor time he just sits their please to me your tricks and tips to make your guinea pig run around

Well i don't think you can make a guinea pig run around... i will post a reply in a second just got to find out about your cavy a sec :P

he may just still be settling in... how long have you had him?

does he have a friend?
If not, the explanation might be as simple as that: he is bored.

Also, guinea pigs do not like open spaces. put cardboard boxes with several doors cut in into the cage, drainpipes, big branches, a box filled with hay.. bricks to hop onto..

make it interesting. If its just a big empty run, I would think too: what should I be running around for? Nothing interesting to see anyway..

2 weeks but if he was still settling in why would he let me cuddle him?

When i got my chinchilla; bubbles, she would let me cuddle her but she wouldnt come out of her cage for about a month... she would also crawl all over me... she didnt feel safe in the wide open space that is my HUGE living room... but now shes fine after i got some place for her to hide and some toys to chew... she had settled in after a month :P which was after she met Biscuits ;)

its not that easy because i want a new bigger cage which is two stories and my dad wont let me :'( andmy mum didnt want one in the first place so she wouldnt buy me 1 and to top it off i have no money to buy it oh and my sister isnt allowed one because i dnt have a big enough cage please help

ps: i cant make a c and c cage i wouldnt have any help

ok that could pose a problem as i dont know anyone who could help you :( sorryy

I agree with Abnoba, it could simply be he's lonely and shy.

Tia (my guinea) who I've had sinceshe was 6 weeks and she's now 3yrs is the most cuddly guinea I've got, she's absolutely adorable and very confident when she's on my lap, but when i put her down, say on the floor or on the sofa she will sit soooo still and wont move until i pick her up again. But when i put her outside in the proper run where she feel safe, with lots of boxes, tubes, a big plant pot to hide it, she will run all over the place and have fun.

Some guinea pigs are much more confident than others, and i think yours is just shy. You need to make a run for him so that he knows this is his ''safe play area'' The area you are using for him could be too open!

thx how do i make a run without those grids?

Out of wood and chicken wire. It's very cheap to do it this way, Do you have anyone in your family that's good at DIY?

they are a bit on the small side, i had to put two together to get a good size run.

you mean those metal side bits, that you put together to form a hexagon shaped run?

Agree with both what Abnoba and Guinea-Tia-Flossie has said. Also hiding his favourite foods in items may make him a bit more active. :)

got any pictures in the gallery? I will go off and search :P

They are easy to put together, mine has little plastic rings that clip the panels to one another. Like Abnoba has said though you need to buy two to get a decent size enclosure. :)

I am not sure if all guinea pigs don't like open spaces as sometimes Herbie seems to love it as he goes racing round the room doing laps and sometimes popcorns when he is doing it. Although sometimes he doesn't like it and just goes behind the sofa to hide.

my one loves going under stuff and stays there but today he was running around the whole cage there weird sometimes

Herbie is having a run around the living room at the moment so I walked in but couldn't see him, went to look round the back of the sofa and he wasn't there either so I slightly panicked (I always keep the living room door closed so he can't get out and he gets peace and quiet from the cat) I forgot I had put a box down and put one of his towels in it yesterday and I turn round to see his little face looking at me as if to say what mum I was tired I wanted a lie down. lol then he came out and squeaked at me which was sweet.

He can also be a strange guinea pig but I love having him and just wish I could have loads more

The majority of guineas don't like open spaces, simply because they are prey animals they like to have places to duck under if they see or suspect a predator is close by. :)
