Hi all, a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend recently had an unexpected pet-shop-piggie litter of three (all apparently girls....or so I was told!).

Two of the babies had been rehomed by the time I was approached, and only the 'runt' of the litter was left to rehome. So me, being a sucker for a sob story, decided we could squeeze her into our big herd!

We got her home, christened her Humbug, and she settled quickly into the herd. I think it helped that she was so tiny - Darklis took to mothering her straight away, bless her!

Anyway, she's really made her presence known......she's certainly got a pair of lungs on her! LOL! So much so that we're thinking of renaming her 'Diva'......;)

A couple of days ago, I was giving her a cuddle (despite her ear-splitting wheeking rolleyes) when I commented to my hubby that she was looking a bit 'pear shaped', and I jokingly suggested she might be pregnant.....inbreeding....however, I had a feel about, and couldn't feel any kind of movement, so we both put her tubbiness down to her massive appetite.

Yesterday morning, though, I woke to find two huge stillborn babies in the cage :( They were still wrapped in the foetal membranes, so they either suffocated due to not being unpacked from their sacs, or they were stillborn. I suspect the latter, as I hadn't been able to find any sign of movement in Humbug's abdomen when I checked her very recently.

Looking at the size of the babies, I doubt they were premature, but they did have white nails - very clearly seen on one of the babies - and it didn't look like they had much hair (although I buried them as I found them, I didn't want to open the foetal sacs to have a closer look). They were both the spitting image of Humbug though.......:(

Poor little Humbug....:(.......only tiny herself and giving birth to those two huge babies. She's absolutely fine though......she had a little bit of light bleeding and discharge for the first 24 hours (as to be expected), but she's perfectly well, active and eating her head off!

I'm keeping a close eye on her, though, and if there's any sign of a problem, she'll be at the vets ASAP.

There's not much point to this thread really, I suppose I just wanted to vent a bit. It's apparent that the person who I rehomed Humbug from didn't sex the other two babies in her litter properly :a19: Anyway, I'm waiting til I calm down a bit before I tell them the news!

Oh wow how upsetting :(

I hope Humbug (Diva? ;)) continues to heal up well.

Poor girl! I hope that she recovers well from her ordeal with the help of her new family! Diva sounds like a great for her!

I guess that you have already got in contact with your friend! mallethead

Oh noooo thats so sad,i bet it was a shock for you,its good tho that shes with you and that you know how to look after her as you already got a herd of piggies,

Oh gosh that really is awful. Sleep peacefully little ones. Poor Humbug having to go through that and so young too. :(

Little Humbug / Diva will certainly never have to go through that again!

Aw, poor girl :(
Thank goodness she is in experienced and loving hands now with you - I still feel exasperated at times with people who have little knowledge of our furry friends then act 'shocked' when hit with facts :x
Sending special hugs to you and your little 'Diva' x>>

OMG! What a shock! Poor little humbug, hope she's ok :(
I have met humbug twice, and can confirm she is teeny tiny!
I cant believe she was pregnant!

oh no! poor humbug!
sadly it also means that there is probably another pregnant piggy if the one that was actually a boy was rehomed with some girls8...

Aww no, poor Humbug, poor babies and poor you :( I hope Humbug continues to grow in to a cute young girl.

I think the sooner you talk to your friend the better for the sake of anymore potential pregnant piggies xx

She's still teeny tiny.....but she's working very hard on expanding her waistline again.....but this time, for the right reasons.

Yes....that thought had crossed my mind......I don't know what happened to the other two, they were long gone when I collected Humbug. But it'll be too late to do much about it now.....:(

I've already spoken to my friend (spoke to her just after I made my original post.....getting it off my chest on here helped to calm me down a bit!), and she's promised to pass on the 'news' to her friend, who'll (hopefully) pass it on to her friend (the original owner).

And NO MORE SOB STORY PIGGIES for me....that's a promise! rolleyes

Big hugs Tracey, it's one of the sadder outcomes of taking in pigs.

Fingers crossed for your little Humbug and that she makes a full recovery from her former life.

Awww I'm so sorry hope mummy pig is okay, goodnight to the wee beautiful piggies :( x

Aww, that must have been horrible for you and Humbug to go through. Glad to hear that she's doing okay now and seems to be getting over her ordeal.

Sorry we'd missed this thread Tracey. Big hugs to you, what an awful thing for gorgeous Humbug/Diva to have gone through. Glad she is ok and hope you are too. Love from us both and piggie Kisses from Treacy Bum, Cookie Crumble and Miss Moo x

Thanks for the good wishes for Diva everyone.....yeah, Diva seems to have stuck now! LOL!

She's great, doing really well, no change to before really.

She's such a little madam though.....she's the tinyest little girl, but she's constantly challenging the head sow, Popsy........Diva plonks herself in one of the hay trays (there are two in the cage) and she will not get out for anyone, and she will not share the space! She just eats til she's had enough (which can mean hours and hours of hay munching, believe me!) then she'll fall asleep in the hay, meaning that all of the others have to eat from the other tray.

I can see trouble ahead when she's big enough to really be a challenge to the top sow spot!

:( poor Humbug. She's lovely, she can now have a lovely life pregnancy free

I'm very glad poor Diva has you, after reading her story, and also very glad she has the herd to be with as well. She is a lovely girl, thank you for the pictures.
