So I just picked up two new guinea pigs who were unwanted. I already have 4 beautiful girls, these two new girls STINK! I'm so surprised as my other 4 simply don't. Sure, their cage gets a bit ripe towards the end of the week but the pigs themselves don't. I'll happily bury my nose in their fur and let them sit in my neck crook but these new two.....Poooooooooooo! What a whiff! What could it be? I don't know an awful lot about them Tbh, I was led to believe they are babies but they are bigger than my eldest who is 2. So I'm not so sure. They smell kinda uriney and unclean. My original pigs have been going mad this eve, even though I haven't introduced them all yet, I think they can smell them (well they must be able to! It's so strong). The original 4 obviously realise that there are new piggies as they've been doing the dominance chase, rumblestrutting and teeth chattering which they never do. I'm glad I've rescued these new ones I just can't understand what the smell is! And I feel bad for my 4 babies who are now quite cross and worked up!

When I got Honey she smelled like a cow from a farm. She was actually in a bad condition and needed a bath. You could try to give them a bath with a guinea pig shampoo, I used gorgeous guineas shampoo and it worked pretty well. The smell could be coming from the fact that they probably sat in their urine and it has dried on their fur. Simply DIEING to see pigtures! :))

Good Luck x

Yeah I figured I might bath them tomorrow! Think I'll put them all in for a touch of buddy bathing! The new ones seem quite happy and settled! It's the original 4 who went into anarchy! My smallest youngest is a right scruff… she looks like shes wonky, she's always been the least dominant, submissive pig, yet tonight she was chasing the other 3, chin up, teeth chattering … until big momma, Mrs Dominant, came rumblestrutting outta her house and chased her round and round! The fur was flying earlier! They've calmed now, things seem normal but introductions will certainly be interesting! I will get pics of them ASAP. I didn't want to disturb them to much tonight. I am hoping the new piggies won't always be smelly! It's very off putting! They did live outside in a hutch and I don't believe they got much attention, whereas mine have indoor living as well as outdoor quarters! Depends on weather! And I always bring them in at night! They are part of our family! Eat their tea when we eat ours etc! So hopefully with some tlc my new babies will stop bring stinky pigs! :-D

Poor things. I'm sure it was just bad conditions and sitting in their pee and poop if the cage wasn't cleaned enough.

I'm sure after a bath they will smell much better =)

@Gizi , I have posted pics but on the wrong thread! They are on my post from yesterday called ' Any bonding experiences/advice?' I'm not very good with all this computer stuff! :oD
