My guinea pigs go into boarding when I am away.

I have started doing this trick to store their water bottles whilst we are away.

When I have dropped them off, I come back home and to a full cage clean. I clean their water bottles and sterilise them (I use boiling water - I know some forum members use other methods). I was never sure how to get the nozzle full dry so I now put their bottles in the freezer while still damp (once they have cooled).

Are these plastic or glass bottles?

I use glass bottles.

I have heard a rumour that some people are recommending sterilising sports bottles by putting them in the freezer. I don't know if this is enough to sterilise bottles.

I would like to make it clear I am only advising people that this is a way to store water bottles & should sterilise them before putting them in the freezer.

It works for me as I find it easier than trying to get the bottles and nozzles dry. I wouldn't like to leave a damp bottle or nozzle hanging around at room temperature for days .

Quite a good idea actually, i always have such a problem at the vets when we have rabbits and guineas and things in, it's sometimes so difficult to get them as dry as they should be before i put them away again! I might try leaving them in the freezer and see if it helps!

Normally with my bottles I leave then to dry in the kitchen window because it's drench with sunlight all morning (if it's sunny day). I did get a baby bottle sterilising unit on Freecycle to use with Milton but haven't got round to using it yet.
