Hi, my two female guinea pigs have recently both been put on antibiotics for a URI. A few days after i had to take them back to the vet as they stopped eating as a reaction to the antibiotic. They were put on critical care and other medication (both pigs were put on it). The night they came back from the second vet visit one of the piggies started teeth chattering and aggressively chasing the other around. She would put her head in between the others legs. Although there are no injuries it concerns me. This chasing behaviour doesn’t happen all the time and they are mostly peaceful together yet it still scares me and i’m fearful that separating them is necessary, which i also don’t have the room for. Does anyone know what is going on?

Hi

I am very sorry; it is more likely both girls being not well and grumpy, which has brought an underlying rift/tensions to the fore. Illness can unfortunately occasionally lead to a fall-out in bonded adult piggies of any gender. :(

Please follow the detailed practical advice in below link to test whether the bond is still viable or not. There is unfortunately no magic wand to make piggies get on. Once sows decide that a member of their group is no longer welcome, you have had it; they are not going to change their mind for the rest of their life.
