Hey all.

So my two girls Denty and Angel have always been a pleasure to have. Denty has always been the shy baby and Angel has always been more daring and outgoing if you like.

Usually, Denty will run and hide when I clean the cage or attempt to scoop her up for a run or lap time but once she’s on my lap she enjoys grooming and once out for a run she’s super excited. Angel does get a little fightened but she’s more forthcoming.

However, today Angel has struck me with some strange behaviour. Every time I’ve attempted to pop some food/snacks in the cage Denty has been her ausual self but Angel seems very timid and runs off hiding and won’t come out. When she thinks the coast is clear she comes out sniffing the food trail, snatches the food and runs and hides with it. She’s never done that. I’ve tried enticing her with snacks but she won’t eat from my hand and everytime she pops her head out she runs back again. I tired to give her a little rub behind the ear and a pet but she runs off as soon as I touch her.

Does anyone know why my little Angel could be behaving this way today?

I’d love to hear from you!

Hi!

It is likely that Angel has taken a fright for some reason. Give her a few days to get over it; she'll come round again!

This was very, very helpful thank you.

Its possible that Angel has, there are some House works going on next door and there has been knocking and drilling almost all day. It’s not as loud in the room they’re in as others but I wouldn’t dismiss this being a cause.

The works are most likely the cause - guinea pigs have much finer hearing and smell than we humans. Can you cover the cage with a blanket throughout the day to give your piggies an added feeling of security and let the radio run to help with the noise a bit?

Absolutely. Thank you.

They’re in the room most furthest away from the noise but I will absolutely try the blanket idea. It’s my only hope until it’s all finished. I politely asked how long it will go on for and my neighbour said it should be finished this week. Hopefully my little Angel will be ok. Thank you.

All the best! I've been with my piggies through 8 months of building work next door and then immediately after our own extension. It was somewhat on the horrendous side. :(
