My guinea pigs have been together for 8 months but every now and again one tries to jump on the other and won’t leave her alone and bites her bum. Is this normal? She also growls all the time and mounts her. They are both female. Should we separate them? They get on the rest of the time. Help!

Sounds like one of them has come into season. They rumble strut and mount the other piggy as a sign of dominance. This happens every 2 weeks with mine, but it should only last a couple of days, then they'll be best mates again. I hate it as the squealing they do is so dramatic! You just have to leave them to sort it out between them.

It's a really normal display of dominance and often happens when one of the sows is in heat (happens about every two weeks, but isn't always obvious to the humans.) No need to separate, they will make up when the hormones subside.
