I have had a female guinea come into the rescue. She is about three years old. eating drinking and weeing as normal. But her private bits are a bit unusual. Her urethra is really big, almost like a willy. Taking her to vet on Friday to get opinion but wondered if anyone had seen a guinea pig like this before.

I have never seen anything like this and would like to hear what your vet is saying.
 
I've not seen anything like it before either, not sure what it could be/what would cause it. Good luck at the vets, do keep us updated. xx
 
New one on me too. Possibly a hermaphrodite? I had a goat that was but no recollection of what her bits looked like - the vet informed us. She was a bit butch though!

Any idea if she's ever been bred from? A small prolapse?

Very puzzling, I'd be interested in what the vet says too.

I have had one other guinea in rescue with me like this but her urethra was not as big as that but she also made me look twice to see if she was a boy or girl.

It is strange because if you pull back on it is does unfold a bit like a boys willy usually does.

As far as I am aware the original owners had her from a baby and she never had a litter.

Will let you know what the vet says.

hi i had hannah who had the same problem she was treated with antibiotics daktarin oral and down there nothing improved it at all,we found out after a few mths of diff treatments it was down to back to back pregs,there is a thread of mine with pictures on, on here,hannah had no problems passing wee at all,we even thought she may have cristals or very acidity wee but no was down the breeding x
 
And the verdict is.....

She is a hermaphrodite piggy - mostly female as she has ovaries and probably a womb, but she has a small willy, no testicles.

She has cystic ovaries though, one is huge almost golf ball sized so she is going to have treatment for that!

I wonder would that mean she'd be able to live with a boy or a girl without problems being as likely?

Does anyone know if this is common in guinea pigs? I'm just thinking of my friend's guinea pig Sally. The pet shop and a vet nurse both said she was a girl, but I didn't think she looked like a girl. But if she has testicles they are small. She seems to have a willy but I couldn't make it come out, which I can do easily with my boys. She looks quite like those photos actually. But she doesn't get along with her male neighbour pig!

She definitely isn't a girl, but I'd have to look at her again to try to figure out if she really is a boy . . . I actually jokingly told my friend she looked like a hermaphrodite.

She has been living with another female for the last 3 years with no problems. She has been sharing with a neutered boar whilst with me and there were no problems with him and her. Her temperament is more of that of a female, she is not aggressive or dominant towards males. It was actually her female friend who wasn't keen on the neutered male sharing with them. I would still consider her to be able to get pregnant with another boar though as she does have ovaries and probably a womb. It seems more like she has an enlarged ****oris. But further investigations will be done for treating her cysts so I shall let you know if any other interesting information comes to light - she is likely to be spayed so we will find out then.

What a sweetie! Glad we got to see her in a more dignified position!
 
had one in a few weeks back called Fenton,his testicles were undecended so needed a bit more of an operation for neutering him,its quite a unique sight though.He did get a hernia about 3 days after his op that required a further operation but he bounced back from it all and is doing fine.
