Hello,

One of my boars Ozias has had a strange noise in his breathing. It isn't constant, it lasts for about 10-15 seconds. He did it twice today and once yesterday. It's usually followed by a sneeze a minute or so later. Could this be a start of a URI or is this something lodged in his throat/nose? He is a bit of a greedy eater sometimes.

Is it happening after he is eating at all?

Hi! is the strange breathing noise happening in connection with eating (during/after). A mildly blocked nose is more audible during eating. Some fluid could also get up into the nose when eating too fast.

See a vet if the breathing deteriorates and becomes constantly raspy/crackly or if your piggy is sneezing several times an hour every hour.

Not that I've noticed, rarely he has a little cough while he eats but no noises after.

Since I've posted he hasn't made any noises, apart from chit chatting to his brother.

Take a deep breath - it was likely just a minor obstruction somewhere in the narrow airways. Because they are so small and because guinea pigs cannot breathe through the mouth, any little stuffiness somewhere is always very audible.
