Hello,

My guinea pig is about 9 months old and as he's grown, his poops have gotten rather massive. For around three months now, I've noticed that about a quarter of them have a dent around the middle. I'm posting a picture (never thought I'd be posting a poop picture on the internet, but here it is :P). It almost looks as if he clenches midway through the poop, or maybe it's just the shape of his intestines? I don't know - has anyone ever dealt with this?

And I've also noticed he's had little white eye crusties for months, and sometimes there will be quite a few of them. But I'm thinking it's the cleaning fluid from his eyes, because I've seen him groom himself and not use all of it. Also attaching a picture, not very good quality, sadly...

He's very active and has a good appetite. He hasn't lost any weight, either. Oh, and he also had a checkup at the vet a while ago and she didn't mention anything about the crust, said he was perfectly healthy. Then again I failed to mention this stuff because he was there for other reasons (he ate some duct tape...).

What do you guys think?

I am no expert but I would take him to the vet to get the crusty discharge checked straight away. You could also mention the misshapen poos.

It looks like two poos stuck together; some boars can have pretty long poos anyway.
The small crust around the eye looks rather like it is from clear fluid after washing out a small irritation in the eye and not like a thick yellowish crust from a respiratory traact infection.

However, if in any doubt, please see a vet , as we cannot diagnose over the internet.

The watery crust from the eye could be a tear duct blockage - if so, your vet may or may not decide to treat it...However best to get an informed diagnosis rather than rely on us looking at a pigture on the internet.

As for the poos - they should come out (in an un-neutered boar) as slightly curved and longer. The dent in the middle is indeed two poos not being able to complete their journey through the gut properly and ending up joined together. This would suggest there is a very slight impingement in his gut motility. You need to keep an eye on this in case it is the first signs of another underlying condition that is reducing his food intake/slowing his guts In the meantime, more hay/fibre may rectify this.
