Specialist Strange? Long term problem?

I hope that everything goes well for Odin at the vets tomorrow, it definitely sounds like this new vet is alot more knowledgeable with piggies so can hopefully tell you if it is dental or not. Thinking of you and Odin❤️
 
Taking any pet to the vet is nerve wracking but since this vet seems more cavy savvy that's comforting for you. It's essential you know what's going on so you are doing what's best for Odin and the vet said the risk is small.

It's good to hear it's not bumble foot though and it sounds like you've done a great job looking after his foot.

The vets called. Odin is awake after his dental procedure. They said his teeth right at the back of his mouth were elongated and that this could have caused his problems. I’m convinced it HAS been the cause, not could have, and I’ve been telling the vet about his strange chewing for weeks.
They said they have corrected the elongated teeth and removed any other spurs. I’m really hoping and praying that this is going to now get him back on the right track! They have said I need to be aware that this problem with his teeth can occur again in the future. They said make sure he has lots of hay all the time - which my pigs do. They have it ad-lib, changed and fresh in throughout the day and before bed (I spend a fortune on hay)
He’s got to stay in over night to be monitored. I feel a little better that his brother is with him though
 
He’s home. The vet said his gums where ulcerated where his teeth had been rubbing them. So annoying as I’ve been telling them about his teeth for weeks. He’s on metacam and antibiotic. The vets says he’s been eating hay and greens today.
He’s very quiet tonight though. I hope it’s just his mouth is still sore and I hope he picks up!
 
Glad he’s back home and the vets have finally realised it’s his teeth. I hope he makes a speedy recovery❤️
 
Thank you all. He seems a lot quieter and is still not eating. Worse than when he went in for the dental :(

I’m getting to the point where I’m willing to make a long journey to Simon in Northampton. I know it’s a long way for Odin but I’m running out of options.
 
I went up to see Simon and Kim with Meg to diagnose what was wrong. It was a 6 hour round trip and Meg coped well. It's certainly worth it! @Bill & Ted take Ted up from Cornwall and he copes well.

That’s my worry, it’s nearly a 3 hour drive for him. He’s sat here with me eating some cucumber. The most he’s eaten in days, but I think I should book him in with Simon anyway
 
Does anyone know which of the centres to contact for Simon and Kim? There are different centres?
 
All booked in with Simon. It’s just he can’t see him till the 24th August. I’m just hoping I can keep him going and get him to start eating in between now and then
 
Sorry, I know I keep bugging everyone.
Odin’s dental problems aren’t getting better. I’m still having to syringe feed every few hours, and he’s not eating. We still get drooling. When I feed him veggies he is trying to eat them but then drops them out of his mouth. The vet said they had corrected his teeth and he’s on antibiotics for infected and ulcerated gums from teeth damage.
I contacted Simon Maddock but he’s away till the 24th. I have another specialist (about 3 hours away) who is going to ring me on Monday as he’s not in over the weekend.
Or do I take him back to my vet again? It took me weeks of telling them about his mouth for them to check his teeth (as they didn’t believe me). Do I keep spending money with them or hold out over the weekend and get him to the specialist?
Or am I dragging this out? Am I wrong keeping him in pain?
I have managed to stabilise his weight by syringe feeding and I even get up in the night, every few hours to feed.
He has sores on his chin (maybe from the excess saliva)? So I’ve been treating them for him too.
In his cage he just sits in the same place all day and won’t touch hay or veggies. Am I actually being more cruel by keeping him going?
I don’t know what to do. He’s only 11 months old

Also would he be dropping food because of the ulcers/infection or is it likely they haven’t done his teeth correctly?
 
Update: took Odin on a road trip today to see a specialist in Cheshire, who was very good with him. He’s had a bit more sedation, full dental X-rays done and another check of his mouth.
the vet said he can’t see anything wrong with his teeth and that roots look good on the X-rays. He said there are now no signs of infection or ulcers.
Odin is very bright in himself, gets very excited for his syringe feed and will nibble the odd bit of watermelon. But I still can’t get him to eat hay or other veggies?

he does have a very sore chin (the vet thinks this was caused by the excess saliva before his dentals). I have some treatment for this from the vet. I wonder if this is the only reason he won’t eat?

so I’m still syringing every few hours (even through the night). I’m exhausted (but will do this forever if I have to). Problem is I have to go back to work in a few weeks. I really wish there was a way to get him eating again ( I’ve even bought him three different types of expensive hay, herbs, dandelion, and his favourite veggies to try tempt him). Sometimes he shows interest, grabs the food, but then tosses his head and gives up :(
 
Hi Do we have any more updates? Sorry to hear you are going through all of this. I am reading this because my 2 year old boy is in pain when pooing too & the specialist vets do not know what is wrong with him.
