So I took my piggies out to clean their cage and I noticed a lump on Cinnamon's lower back :( What is it? And how much will it cost to have surgery/ take it to the vet.image.webp

Only a vet would be able to tell you what it is and cost varies from vet to vet. I would take her anyway if you’re worried about it. Is she acting/eating/pooping as normal? Is her weight stable?

I'm at school for most of the day, but from what i've seen she's been eating normally. She weighs around 1020g which is pretty normal for her.

Hi!

Unfortunately only a hands-on vet examination can tell you what the lump is. You can be dealing with an abscess, a cyst of some sort, a fatty lump or, if it is sitting in the pit of an arm or leg, a swollen lymph node.

If it is very fast growing (doubling or quadrupling in size within 24 hours), then please have it seen as quickly as you can ideally within 24 hours or immediately after the weekend if you do not have access to an out-of-hours or 24/7 clinic.
If the lump is just coming up but then stays put, you can have it vet checked during regular opening hours ideally within a week.

Vet cost depend very much on whether the lump needs any treatment like abscess lancing (no GA needed) or operative removal; or whether it is fairly stable, harmless in nature and can be kept just under observation as long as it is not impeding movement.

We strongly recommend to please save up for a vet fund as part of the weekly/monthly pet cost so you are not caught out and can see a vet as quickly as necessary. Illness and emergencies unfortunately never happen at a convenient time but they make the largest overall life time budget post in any pet's life. And with the average life span of a healthy well kept guinea pig being 5-7 years, you are rather bound to end up at the vet's sooner or later.

All the best!

I agree, only a vet is going to be able to diagnose what the lump is and be able to treat it appropriately

I agree that only a hands on exam by a vet will give you the answer. Please let us know how you get on at the vets.
