Hello, it’s the pain again! Hope everyone & their pigs are well? As usual I’m after some help.

Fozzy my 15.5 month old boy started making a funny hooting sound about 3 weeks ago, so off he went to the vets & they couldn’t hear anything but gave him co-trimoxazole & metacam as a precaution. The noise stopped that same day.

Then yesterday he started making the same noise with a sort of whimpering added in? Got an appointment with our usual cavy savvy vet yesterday & she gave him a thorough check over & couldn’t hear or feel anything wrong? He did make the noise a bit after getting home but then stopped. This morning there was a bit of noise but not much. He has then started aggressively humping his 2yr 2mth old brother this afternoon (which is something he doesn’t usually do). They have settled down a bit but then Fozzy started with the whimpering again?

He has lost no weight & other than the humping is acting as normal.

Just wondering if anyone has heard this sort of noise before as it’s a new one on me?

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like the noise Brillo makes when he has something in his airway. He usually clears it by himself but if it not the vet gave me some Bisolven for him. I sprinkle a bit of the powder on a slice of cucumber, if this doesn't help he has 10 minutes in the nebuliser.

If the vet found nothing wrong and he is not losing weight then I would monitor it for now and see how he goes. If you get worried about him do return to the vet in case it's the start of something that needs attention.

Thanks @piggieminder actually now you mention it yesterday when he did the noise he sneezed & then we didn’t hear it for ages? It just sounded a bit more whingy today? Stressed to bits with them (his brother has kidney disease) x

It's very stressful when they are ill. Hopefully it is just his airway getting partially blocked. Their airways are so narrow a bit of dust from the hay will do it.
I'm sorry to hear about your other piggy.
