Hi, I have Joost a male approximately three year old, not neutered pig. Lately he began to stink and when I picked him up I could feel his balls being really large, so I looked closer and between his balls was a round ball of pooh. I removed it and went to the vet who said it was normal for older boys to have this. I had guinea pigs as a child and I've never seen this. He eats greens-mostly celery as that's his favourite- but also cucumber, lettuce, kale; well everything really. He always has lot of hay to eat.
Other than this strange pooh ball, he's fine. He has normal faeces too.
Anybody?

It will probably need cleaning... eugh I've seen a video of how to do it :vom:
The people I've tagged know a bit more, hopefully they'll reply soon

Will advise though. Please do not- (if you watch a certain Youtube video) stick a cottonbud in your piggies bum and dig around it cannot be nice for them. I have been advised that cleaning gently with a babywipe is ok, using liquid vaseline ( mineral oil ) is safe too. :) This one video was horrendous. The lady is saying what a good piggie he is while she is shoving the poor boy in the bottom with some force :eek:

I agree, looks nasty with that cottonbud. I actually manage to push it out in a ball, but oh boy, the smell....

I can't add anymore than has been said above other than that impaction is common in older boars.

I dont think there is apart from helping them evacuate it, as you already have. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Some boys it never happens to apparently but some it does.

My Rory is still young about 6 months he's been neutered but I do check his bits and he doesn't smell at all... Only his pee which knocks me back a couple steps.
There's still time for it to happen...

I can send Quinn over and he'll give it a clean :vom:

Nah, seriously though it is easy to do once you get the hang of it. Hopefully this video will help a little :)

I don't do it in the forcing way that she does anyway!

oh my word... i have 2 boars and hope i never have to do this. And whoa poor pig in the video... surely the tamest pig in the world ever?!

I have only ever used the cotton bud to remove pieces of papelit from the sac. They rub themselves over it and it gets stuck. Thankfully it doesn't happen often. I don't want people thinking that I do what this woman does in the video. I found the video through the Guinea Pig Community on Facebook.

be assured I dont :) my reaction was to her. ive seen other demonstrations where its alot more gentle than that x

Ok, thanks for all the info and I do not and will not use a cottonbud. He doesn't mind me pushing this stinky stuff out, he's a good boy, but as it says in the article I have to do it more often than once a week. Yuk.
Good thing I love him.
