Winston has just been on antibiotics for a week for a urinary infection, over that week he hadn't really fancied any of his favourite veg, he was still eating hay, and his grain, and he ate grass when they went out, but now their on fleece I could see that he wasn't pooing :s
We put them out on the grass and a couple of hours later noticed that he'd been pooing out in the run, but they weren't a normal shape - each of them has a bobble on one end, and they're all longer than normal, is this a case of using probiotics to settle his stomach after the antibiotics? we stopped them 3 days ago now, and he's eating normally again, but still not pooing in his cage...he's in there for 24hr stretches and sometimes longer, that's not right?!

When a piggy is on antibiotics they do need a probiotic at the same time. I expect the poops look this way due to the antibiotics not having worked out of his system. I hope they return to normal soon.

I would agree that the antibiotics have probably caused a bit of upset. It may be worth giving him some probiotics now (you can get them online or from petshops such as Pets at Home) or making some "poop soup". Sounds gross but if you have another healthy pig, take some of his poops and mix them with some boiled water. Leave to cool and feed to your poorly piggy. This will help to re-populate the good bacteria in his guts.

This always happens with my piggys when they take Baytril (and every now and again when they have Metacam too) even though I give a probiotic at the same time. I usually continue the probiotic for a few days after finishing the medication and the poos soon return to a normal shape/size. Piggys have very sensitive tummies.

Thanks everyone, he'll be on probiotics asap, and meanwhile I'll try that poop soup idea, it sounds logical, if not a bit strange! thank you!
