hi. my boar cocoa got sick last month, we took him in and the vet gave us a course of baytril and he was fine. today he’s showing the same symptoms again. i gave him a dose of baytril and a heatpack for now, what do i do? we ran out of hay two days ago, could that be why? we are getting more today

I would think if he ate proper food he could recuperate faster because he will have the strength to fight whatever the sickness is.
If you don't have hay, maybe try giving him veggies or pellets. If he continues to stay sick, I would take him to see the vet again.

I would go back to the vet ASAP. Guinea pigs need constant unlimited hay. It should make up most of their diet.

Please do not medicate on spec. Please take the piggy back to the vet for an examination. And please get some hay immediately as 80 - 90% of a piggy's diet should be hay so this is vital for his health and nutrition.

hello! yes we are getting hay and i will be taking him in if hes not ok by tonight :(

Try not to let your hay supply get low so you end up running out- herbivores need to be virtually constantly eating high fibre- think horses, sheep, rabbits etc.

Hi, what symptoms does he have? And what was the need for a heatpack?

hello, yes that was a mistake. i was basically on a course of sleep-eat-school-repeat so i didn’t have time to run out and grab some, but now we’ve stocked up and that will not happen again! ty.

hi! his eyes were squinty, didnt start squeaking right away when he saw me and was walking slowly. (edit: those were the symptoms last time too) he ate some veggies and pellets and perked up, and i gave him a half dose of baytril this morning, so he’s a lot better vut we will obviously be keeping close watch. last time the vet told us he was cold and keeping him warm would help him recover so i figured it would be the same. thanks

If the vet said he was too cold and keeping him warm will help him recover faster, then I would add extra hay, veggies, and pellet to his diet in addition to keeping him warm. Because I read many times on this forum that as the weather gets colder, piggies need extra food.

Mine are indoor piggies but they will still eat more hay, veggies, and pellets in the cold weather.
