Hi, Early this year I posted a message on my rescue piggies. Nutmeg a shot haired little girl has really bad skin. I have gone onto gorgeous guinneas and got her a melt, shampoo and an ointment for her but this still hasn't seem to clear it. She does seem to scratch but she hasn't broken the skin nor does her hair fall out. It looks like really bad dandruff at the base of her really thick fur just on her back.

Any ideas what I should try now to help her.

Thanks

Amanda

have you tried to see a local rodentologist? you could try contacting the cambridge cavy trust?

Hi Amanda, when you got your stuff from GG, did you e mail Chrissie with symptoms, and photo if poss), so she could recommend products for you? She is very helpful that way. I hope your piggy is ok, others will post more medical responses for you hopefully. xx

It is possible that it's simply a case of very dry skin, that doesn't help with the itching though! How often are you bathing him, and what with?

Have you treated for mites with Ivermectin?

I have not tried Ivermectin yet do I get it from the vets. I have bathed her once a month with treatment shampoo frm gorgeous guineas as well as with the melt for her skin. in between washes I use the lavender treatment ointment. When I got he girls they were in such a mes I had to cutoff big matted fur balls from binky, and they were pretty much sleeping in wee, I felt soo sorry for them I couldn't believe that theycould be treated so bad.
