My aby cavy, Skruffy seems fine besides him often backing into a wall or corner, sit perfectly still and sound a quiet, quick weeks.... Is this normal? My smooth-hair, Oni doesnt do this at all. He hasn't done it when he was younger. He's a little over a year now. Again, Skruffy seems perfectly normal otherwise. I had a thought he was just releaving himself, but the weeking sound seems like hes in pain. Should I take him to a vet? or will he be fine with a small home check up?
Thank you!

Backing into a corner is common when taking a leak, but the wheeking may indicate a urine infection or bladder stones, which needs to be checked out by a vet asap. The faster the treatment, the better.

I agree with @Elwickcavies that it would be advisable to have him checked over for a urinary tract infection in the early stages.

I agree with the above too, sound like he is shouting when peeing.

Well, last night I sent out several emails to local vets... its a little disappointing that I haven't received a single reply yet. But, I'll wait one more day. Then I will call them. =3 I'll stay posted!

I have an appointment tomorrow morning... I hope he will be fine by himself... or should I bring Oni along too? Ive never traveled with them other than from when I got them. I'll do some research right after this. >.< this is scary!

My boys were just at the vet together as Quinn has had the same symptoms you are describing. It stops them feeling as stressed. The vets were happy to keep them both in all day too. They also fell asleep in the car on the way there and the way back :) I filled their carrier with plenty of hay and took some cucumber slices to keep them hydrated. Don't worry too much about the travelling, the pigs will be fine!

Good luck to Skruffy.

Glad you've made an appointment. I've never had bladder issues with my pigs, but I have had plenty personally, and if they're anything like pigs' then the sooner you treat the better; it hurts! I wouldn't worry about traveling. I generally get a box (tbh it's usually an empty beer box!) and line it with a fleece and a giant pile of hay. They might not like traveling, but he'll be ok! I think it helps mine when you speak softly to them and offer pets while you wait for the doc. good luck!

Hey,
i wouldn't worry to much at the moment. it is continuing and the pain keeps up then i will would get a home check up
good luck:D

Glad you got an appointment, don't panic too much about it, preferably a cat carrier is best but even a box filled with newspaper and hay will be ok, take his friend along too. Hopefully it is a UTI and nothing more and he can be treated with antibiotics. It is not something that can be left though, so good you are seeing a vet.

"pawholders" is very cute! So I took Skruffy to the vet (with his friend) and it turns out it was just a bad impaction. The vet did her best to get the impaction out, but it was really stuck to one side. She wet it and broke it so that the part that's stuck doesn't peal skin. It looked painful! Anyways, Skruffy is fine. I just need to try and get him to eat more hay. I thought, why not feed some cucumbers too? That can soften the poo, too! Also I will be checking on him once a week, wet down the piece of impaction that was left and clean. I even checked Oni myself just in case, and hes ok too. YAY!

Impaction in boars can be very bad and painful when not cleared out regularly. It is a very messy and extremely stinky job, but one you may have to do for the rest of his life. We have several members dealing with impacted boars; they may help you with tips for his care.

Here are our tips for a good balanced diet. Impaction doesn't have so much to do with how soft the poo is, but a good and balanced diet is important for gut and general health.
