:)p we have a 10 week old male unneutered living on his own at the moment.
for the past couple of days his wee is a browny colour?
what is this due to?
i know in buns it can be just one of those things or down to things that they have eaten ie carrots.
in buns it can come and go over a day or two ,but now I'm concerned that there could be something else going on..
is it cystitis? will baytril work? peter gurneys book says to give him a cystitis treatment if its that but i dont know at the moment..
he is very well in himself ,eats well, popcorns etc
there is no odour or discharge from that area...
i dont trust the local vets and if its something i can treat at home then i want to do that..
have you had any experience with browny wee?
is it something to do with food that he eats or is it an infection?
how should i treat it?

HI! Where in Kent are you - i am in kent and a member here passed me to the greatest vet - she specialises in piggies.

Has he eaten anything like beetroot or carrot recently? Is the wee brown or is it the stain on the newspaper?

they have carrots ,satsuma etc for tea but this has been going on for a few days now...we are in faversham.I'm thinking that it could be a uti..
thanks for the quick reply

No worries, ah, maybe a little far from the vets i use then. couldnt you change vets if you are unsure by them? i did this, quite easy to do.

Sorry to ask again, but was it the newspaper or whatever they are on stained, or is it the actual wee - when he wees does it come out brown?

its defo wee..they live indoors...its on his white towel that he sleeps on.
so its certainly browny coloured

right, i just wanted to make sure you had seen him wee the brown. I only say this because the wee can dry into a brown stain, thats why i ask!

I think the best thing is to take him to the vet to get checked over, if its a UTI or anything, they will be able to give him suitable treatment.

I hope the little fella picks up soon and keep us updated on his progress.

All the best.

I would probably pop him to the vets to be on the safe side. Like Moonie8404 said it might be a uti.

thanks for the replies......we keep baytril and all the guinea first aid stuff here! biolapis, recovery, hibiscrub etcrolleyes
so as the vets here are useless and the nearest decent vet that i know is 2 hours drive away i will treat myself! baytril ,biolapis and cystaid.
ive checked with a competent vet and the peter gurney books !
if he doesnt pick up in a day or so i will take him to the meopham vets.

aw you are well prepared! good luck with it all and keep us updated!

no worries for the replies, thats what we are here for!

FOUND OUT WHAT IT WAS!!
he had a piece of hay in his little willy! didnt occur to me it could be that!
i was looking on here for an idea and saw a thread someone had put about their boar having a bad day and it turned out that was the problem....so i thought "well lets see if that could be the problem" turned him upside down and there it was! so removed it VERY CAREFULLY!
hes now on vit c tablets ,baytril and cystaid. just 12 hours later and hes wee is alot better looking..hopefully tomorrow it will be even better!
thanks to everyone for their input..
