Hi guys haven't been around recently but I'm just curious if guinea pigs can eat hay? Thanks in advance, boreen

Absolutely yes, hay should be the main part of their diet (but NOT straw, as in your heading - hay and straw are different).

Guinea pigs shouldn't eat straw, but up to 80% of the daily food intake should be hay, ideally meadow or timothy hay. This is necessary to keep the guts steady and prevent health and especially dental problems (overgrown pre-molars) in the long term.

And by the way, I meant to say can guinea pigs eat straw, not hay. Sorry! I know more about guinea pigs than that!

They cannot eat straw or be bedded on it as it is too sharp and can give pokes in the eye.

Not yet...not for ages. I will at the end of the summer which is not until forever but I'm excited anyway.
