can anybody tell me if guinea pigs can eat strawberry plants? the strawberries have finished now and if the guinea pigs enjoy the plants it saves putting them in the compost bin.

you might be able to keep the plants for next year? they usually do better in their second and third years, and you can take runners from them too.
:)

I just recently discovered this so last night when I was having strawberries, I gave the girls all the tops from the ones I was eatting and they were fighting over them - they must be really tasty to guinea pigs.

they are,i was originally chopping my strawberries to perfection removing all stalks and cutting them tiny lol,the piggies hated them and i decided to try the tops so now i eat the strawberry and the piggies eat all the green bits,no waste x

Thanks for the advice. This is the first year my garden as been finished enough to grow anything so I grew strawberries and tomatoes. I think the guinea pigs can have them this year and by next year my garden should be all finished so i can keep them. I'll pull them out for the piggies tomorrow.

I have never fed mine strawberry plant leaves or strawberry tops, i.e. the greens bit you remove before serving.

So are we all saying that they are safe for them to eat as I am growing some in a pot?

Yeah, mine hate the fruit XD They like the leaves, but tops? They give me very nasty looks

Only one of my piggies out of about fifty in the past years has liked strawberries, and to be honest I bet he'd try anything I put into his cage he is so food obsessed!

I'm quite excited to get home and see if they like the leaves now, always excited to find a new snack for them, they love all these fresh leaves in the summer!
